Rockets Crush The Golden Flashes

Toledo enters this contest at 4–3, fresh off a dominant 45–10 win over Kent State that showcased their offensive balance. Quarterback Tucker Gleason has been sharp, throwing for nearly 1,500 yards with 12 touchdowns against just four interceptions, while completing almost 65% of his passes. His efficiency has been complemented by a strong ground game led by DeaMonte Trayanum, who has averaged over 100 yards per game and scored seven touchdowns. That combination has given the Rockets one of the more balanced attacks in the MAC, capable of moving the ball both through the air and on the ground.

The receiving corps has been led by Junior Vandeross III, who has emerged as a reliable playmaker with over 550 yards and seven touchdowns. Trayvon Rudolph has also provided explosive ability, averaging nearly 24 yards per catch in his last outing. This depth in the passing game has allowed Gleason to spread the ball around and keep defenses from keying in on one option. Against a Washington State defense that has struggled at times against the pass, Toledo’s receivers could play a pivotal role in sustaining drives and creating scoring opportunities.

Defensively, Toledo has been one of the most impressive units in the country, allowing just 14.3 points per game and ranking inside the Top 10 nationally in scoring defense. Their front seven has been stout against the run, holding opponents under 85 yards per contest, while the secondary has limited passing efficiency to just 140 yards per game. With a +4 turnover margin and a defense that thrives on forcing opponents into long-yardage situations, the Rockets have consistently dictated tempo. That defensive strength will be tested against Washington State’s quick-strike passing game, but Toledo has shown the discipline to handle those challenges.

Cougars Fall Short Against The Cavs

Washington State comes in at 3–4, looking to rebound after a narrow 22–20 loss to Virginia that highlighted both their potential and their inconsistencies. Quarterback Zevi Eckhaus has thrown for just under 1,000 yards with seven touchdowns, but turnovers have been an issue with four interceptions. He has also added three rushing scores, giving the Cougars some mobility at the position. Running back Kirby Vorhees has been steady, averaging over 40 yards per game, but the ground game has lacked explosiveness, ranking near the bottom nationally in rushing production.

The passing game has been the Cougars’ strength, with Josh Meredith leading the way at nearly 400 yards and two touchdowns, while Tony Freeman has added over 300 yards as a complementary option. Washington State has leaned on quick throws and tempo to keep defenses off balance, but inconsistency in finishing drives has limited their scoring output to just over 20 points per game. Against a Toledo defense that excels at tightening in the red zone, execution will be critical if the Cougars want to keep pace.

Defensively, Washington State has been serviceable but not dominant, allowing 27 points per game and ranking outside the Top 90 nationally in scoring defense. Their front seven has been decent against the run, but the secondary has struggled to contain explosive plays, which could be a problem against Toledo’s balanced attack. The Cougars have also been plagued by a -7 turnover margin, one of the worst in the FBS, which has repeatedly put their defense in difficult situations. For Washington State to hold serve at home, they’ll need to protect the football and find ways to generate pressure on Gleason, otherwise Toledo’s efficiency could wear them down over four quarters.

Toledo vs Washington State Pick

Toledo vs Washington State Spread Pick

  • Toledo -1 (5 Units)

Toledo -1 looks like a strong side because the Rockets bring one of the most balanced profiles in the Group of Five, pairing an efficient offense with a defense that has been among the nation’s best statistically. Tucker Gleason has provided steady quarterback play, spreading the ball effectively to multiple receivers, while DeaMonte Trayanum has anchored a rushing attack that consistently moves the chains. That balance makes Toledo difficult to scheme against, and against a Washington State defense that has struggled to contain explosive plays and ranks outside the top tier nationally in scoring defense, the Rockets should be able to dictate tempo. Their ability to control possession and avoid turnovers gives them a clear path to covering the short number.

On the other side, Toledo’s defense has been the difference-maker, holding opponents under 15 points per game and excelling against both the run and the pass. Washington State has leaned on its passing game but has been inconsistent in finishing drives, averaging just over 20 points per contest while also carrying one of the worst turnover margins in the FBS. That’s a dangerous combination against a Rockets defense that thrives on forcing mistakes and flipping field position. With Toledo’s efficiency on both sides of the ball and Washington State’s struggles in execution, laying the single point with the Rockets looks like the sharper play in this matchup.

Toledo vs Washington State Over/Under Pick

  • Under 45.5 (4 Units)

The Under 45.5 looks like the sharper angle because Toledo’s defense has been one of the most efficient in the country, holding opponents under 15 points per game, while Washington State has struggled to finish drives and averages just over 20 points per contest. Both teams lean on methodical possessions rather than explosive scoring, and with the Rockets’ ability to control tempo on the ground and the Cougars’ inconsistency in sustaining offense, long drives that end in field goals or stalled possessions feel likely. Add in Toledo’s disciplined secondary and Washington State’s turnover issues, and this matchup projects as a lower-scoring battle that stays beneath 45.5.
