Tulsa trying to end a losing streak
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane have lost four straight and are still searching for their first AAC win of the season. Tulsa has been close, coming off a 38-37 loss to Temple their last time out. Outside of a season-opening win over Abilene Christian, Tulsa’s only other victory remains its upset win over Oklahoma State back in September.

Tulsa ranks 72nd nationally in total offense at 380.6 yards per game but only 110th in scoring (22 ppg). The Golden Hurricane offense is balanced, averaging 230 passing yards per game (70th), while the rushing attack adds 150.6 yards (76th).
Quarterback Baylor Hayes has settled in as the starter after splitting snaps early in the season. He’s completed 60.1% of his passes for 1,334 yards with nine touchdowns and three interceptions. Hayes is coming off his best performance of the year, throwing for 296 yards and three scores against Temple. Running back Dominic Richardson continues to be a steady presence, rushing for 675 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Zion Booker leads the receiving corps with 45 catches for 412 yards and two touchdowns.
On defense, Tulsa ranks 113th nationally in total defense (415.5 yards per game) and 121st against the run (191.9 yards per game). They have also allowed 29.6 points per game, which ranks 101st.
FAU fighting for their bowl hopes
Florida Atlantic’s season has been a roller coaster. At 3-5 overall, the Owls still have bowl hopes alive, but they’ll likely need to win three of their last four to reach eligibility. Offensively, FAU has shown the ability to move the ball, ranking 37th in the country with 428.6 total yards per game and an impressive 325.9 passing yards per game, which ranks third nationally. Turnovers have been a huge problem as the Owls are last in the FBS with a -2 turnover margin per game.
Quarterback Caden Veltkamp leads the offense after starting at Western Kentucky last season, throwing for 2,324 yards with 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 65.4% of his passes. His top target has been Easton Messer, who has caught 67 passes for 627 yards. The running game for FAU has not been strong, ranking 126th with 102.8 yards per game. Gemari Sands leads the team with only 330 yards on 66 carries and no touchdowns.
Defensively, FAU allows 409.4 yards per game (108th in FBS) and has particularly struggled against the run, giving up 204.1 rushing yards per game (128th). The Owls’ secondary has been decent, allowing just 205.3 yards per game through the air, but the front seven has been unable to contain opposing rushing attacks. FAU also ranks among the most penalized teams in the country, averaging over 60 yards per game in penalties.
Tulsa vs FAU Prediction
ATS Pick for Tulsa vs. FAU
- Tulsa +3.5 (4 units)
Tulsa is due for a breakthrough. The Golden Hurricane were close before falling to Temple and has had a bye week to sit on that loss. Now Tulsa is finally catching an opponent whose weaknesses align with their strengths. Tulsa is weakest at defending the run, but FAU's offense has been more one-dimensional, relying on its passing attack. Turnovers have also been a huge problem for FAU, as they are last in the FBS with a -2 turnover margin per game, as Caden Veltkamp has struggled with throwing picks. Then you have the FAU defense, which has been one of the worst in the country at stopping the run.
With freshman quarterback Baylor Hayes showing improvement, Tulsa will be able to move the ball through the air and have a big game on the ground. FAU also embarrassed Tulsa last season, and I will take the points with Tulsa as a motivated road underdog.
Total Pick for Tulsa vs. FAU
- Over 64.5 (5 units)
The FAU offense will air it out, and they should be able to move the ball against a Tulsa team that has allowed more than 30 points in all five of its conference games this season. On the other side, the FAU defense isn’t much better, allowing 33+ points in five of its last six games, and I also expect the Golden Hurricanes to march up and down the field.
With both teams struggling with turnovers this season, especially FAU, short fields and defensive scores are also on the table. Expect a back-and-forth shootout that goes over.
