Western Michigan Broncos vs Eastern Michigan Eagles Picks and Prediction

On Tuesday, the Western Michigan Broncos (7-4, 6-1 MAC) visit Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Rynearson Stadium for a Mid-American Conference battle with the Eastern Michigan Eagles (4-7, 3-4 MAC). Western Michigan defeated Northern Illinois 35-19 on Tuesday night. The Broncos have won three straight and lead the MAC. A victory over Eastern Michigan on Tuesday would clinch first place for Western Michigan.

The Broncos (-6.5/47) could still play in the MAC title game with a loss, but would need help from other teams. Eastern Michigan defeated Ball State 24-9 last Saturday and has won two straight. The Eagles cannot become bowl eligible as they have four wins and just one game remaining. Western Michigan relies on a tough defense

WMU needed a strong rushing attack last Tuesday night against NIU, because Broc Lowry threw just nine passes for 32 yards with a pick. But the Broncos' Jalen Buckley rushed for 132 yards (2 TDs), Devin Miller had 105 yards and Lowery produced 100 yards and three TDs.

The Western Michigan Broncos score an average of 25.3 points (87th) per game. The Broncos are 23rd in rushing yards and 122nd in passing yards for 360.0 yards of total offense, which is 94th. Western Michigan allows an average of 20.3 points (28th) per game. The Broncos are 17th in passing yards allowed and 48th in rushing yards allowed for a total of 316.6 yards per game, which is 20th.

Lowry leads the running game for Western Michigan with 783 yards and 12 touchdowns, while Jalen Buckley is second with 566 yards and five touchdowns. Talique Williams is the leading receiver at 478 yards and two touchdown receptions. Linebacker James Camden is the leading tackler with 66. Western Michigan has made 33 quarterback sacks and intercepted seven passes.

Key Injuries for Western Michigan:

Western Michigan will play without OG Jeremy Schleicher, while 10 others are listed as questionable, including QB Mark Konecny.

Eastern Michigan and below average on both sides of the ball

The Eagles are trying to finish strong, even though they are not going to be bowl-eligible. Noak Kim led EMU with 229 yards passing but had two picks in the win over Ball State. Dontate McMillar rushed for 80 yards to lead the Eagles. It was the defense that was dominant, allowing three field goals and 225 total yards against Ball State.

Eastern Michigan scores an average of 24.4 points (93rd) per game. The Eagles are 74th in passing yards and 87th in rushing yards for 369.6 yards of total offense per game, which is 87th. Eastern Michigan allows an average of 29.6 points (101st) per game. The Eagles are 30th in passing yards allowed and 136th (last) in rushing yards allowed for 419.7 yards per game.

Western Michigan Broncos vs. Eastern Michigan Eagles Pick

Spread Pick for WMU vs. EMU

  • Western Michigan -6 (4 units)

The Western Michigan Broncos will be too much on both sides of the line of scrimmage for Eastern Michigan to keep pace. On offense, Western Michigan will use its 23rd-ranked rushing attack, which averages 199.2 yards per game, against an Eastern Michigan rush defense that is 136th or last in the nation, allowing an average of 227.9 yards per game. Western Michigan's defense, which is allowing just 20.3 points per game and is 17th against the pass, will stifle the Eastern Michigan offense, which relies more on its passing game than its ground game. Western Michigan has covered the spread in six of its last eight games. Western Michigan dual-threat quarterback Broc Lowry will keep the Eastern Michigan defense on its heels as the signal caller has 1,472 yards passing and 783 yards rushing. Lowry has accounted for 19 touchdowns. Not to be overlooked is the incentive that Western Michigan has to win this, as they will be the regular-season champion of the Mid-American Conference with a win and play in the conference title game.

Over/Under Pick for Western Michigan vs. Eastern Michigan

  • Under 47 (4 units)

The total has finished under in 10 of Western Michigan's last 15 games and in four of Eastern Michigan's last five games. As mentioned previously, Western Michigan allows only 20.3 points per game, which is 28th best in the country. Western Michigan is known for its running game and will use that to take time off the clock in each possession and, therefore, create fewer possessions for both teams.
