Wisconsin Searches for First League Win
The Big Ten Conference continues to get stronger, and the Wisconsin Badgers are feeling the brunt of it as they are 0-4 in league play heading into this one. Three of those games were at home, as they lost while hosting Maryland, Iowa and Ohio State, while also falling on the road at Michigan. The past two weeks have been tough for the Badgers, as they lost 37-0 against Wisconsin and 34-0 against Ohio State. Wisconsin is still searching for answers at quarterback, as they have tried out three of their options already this year.
Billy Edwards Jr. is a senior quarterback, but is listed as questionable with a knee injury. Sophomore Danny O'Neil was on the field the most to start the season, and leads the team with 635 yards and a 5-5 TD-INT ratio, but was benched after the Maryland game, and is expected to be the second string here. That leaves Hunter Simmons as the projected starter, but the senior has a 1-4 TD-INT ratio to go with his 383 passing yards. Wisconsin is likely to lean on their ground game, which is powered by freshman Dilin Jones, who leads the team with 300 yards and two touchdowns.
Vinny Anthony II has been their top target in the passing game; he has 25 catches for 279 yards and a touchdown as a 6'0 senior who has spent his whole career with the Badgers. Through seven games, the defense has 12 sacks and four interceptions. Preston Zachman has grabbed two interceptions from the safety spot, and Christian Alliegro has been their toughest defender up front with 44 tackles and two sacks from his linebacker spot.

Ducks Bounce Back After Loss
The Oregon Ducks have been on a wild roller coaster ride over the past three weeks. They began the stretch with an impressive win on the road against #3 Penn State, a game they helped lead to the eventual firing of James Franklin. Next, the Ducks suffered a let-down loss, falling to the surprisingly strong Indiana Hoosiers. After their loss, they refocused and beat Rutgers by a crisp 46 points in an easy victory. In the Rutgers game, Dante Moore passed for 290 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.
Moore is a 6'3 sophomore quarterback who will likely find himself playing on Sundays in his future. So far this season, he has already passed for 1,686 yards with a strong 19-4 TD-INT ratio. His top passing game of the season came when he threw for 305 yards in a victory over Oregon State. Moore is capable of running with his 144 rush yards on the season, but there are four other ball carriers on the team who share the ball and have more yards on the ground. Their top back by production has been senior Noah Whittington with 336 yards and four touchdowns, but Dierre Hill Jr. is right behind him with 329 yards and three touchdowns as just a freshman.
Dakorien Moore is a fast 5'11 freshman on the outside who has 25 catches for 398 yards and three scores, while tight end Kenyon Sadiq is another strong option in the passing game with 305 yards and five touchdowns. Their defense has 13 sacks, led by linebacker Matayo Uiagalelei with four. Seven different players have grabbed an interception, with Jerry Mixon grabbing two as a linebacker.
Wisconsin vs. Oregon Prediction and Picks
Spread pick for Wisconsin vs. Oregon
- Oregon -31.5 (4 units)
This is not the NFL, where even the bad teams are full of professionals. The truth here is that Wisconsin does not have a roster strong enough to compete in the Big Ten this season. They do not have a reliable quarterback, are forcing a freshman into a tough spot at running back, and have given up 34 or more points over the past two weeks. Wisconsin has been outscored 71-0 over their last eight quarters, and Oregon will study that film to see how opposing defenses have shut down the Badgers. Oregon is now operating with a mindset that their wins need to pass the eye test. After that Indiana loss, the Ducks won their next game by 46 against Rutgers. Dante Moore is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, while Wisconsin can't figure out which one of their subpar QBs to send out there. Oregon rolls big here.
Take Oregon to cover.
Over/Under Pick for Wisconsin vs. Oregon
- Over 43.5 (4 units)
The total is a telling sign of how Vegas thinks this game will play out. The spread is 31.5 points, but the total is only 43.5, which means they think Wisconsin will be lucky to reach ten points. The Wisconsin coaching staff has their jobs on the line, and cannot put up another goose egg in three consecutive conference games. The play calling will be aggressive, as the Badgers have nothing left to lose, having no shot at the College Football Playoff. With the playoff in mind, Oregon might cover this 43.5-point total on their own, just as it did last week against Rutgers, where it put up 56. Dante Moore will strengthen his Heisman case with more big numbers in an over.
Take the over.
