Wyoming hopes to climb over .500 mark

The Wyoming Cowboys roared back from a 28-14 deficit on Saturday, scoring 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull out a 35-28 victory over San Jose State at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. The win improved the Cowboys to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in Mountain West Conference play.

"It was a great fight from our team for 60 minutes," UW head coach Jay Sawvel said. "It was pretty ugly for 47 of it, and then pretty beautiful for 13 of it. The credit goes to the players. We got to the sideline after that second touchdown, and it felt like if we were going to win the game, it's going to be like, 51-49. We just stayed in the fight. This is a players' win. It's a players' game. There are a lot of things in football that are similar to life. If you just stay in the fight, things will work out. We stayed in the fight, and all of a sudden there's an interception for a touchdown and then the whole game changed. All we had to do was figure out a way to get it back to a one-score game and for a long time we had to figure out a way to not let it get to a three-score game."

Quarterback Kaden Anderson was the hero for the Cowboys, engineering two touchdown drives in the game’s final three minutes. He finished the game 23-of-39 for 304 yards and two touchdowns. More impressively, Anderson spread the wealth, completing passes to 11 different receivers in the contest. Running back Tote Harris finished the game with nine carries for 58 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown run to give the Cowboys the lead in the fourth quarter. In all, Wyoming accumulated 411 yards of total offense.

Falcons looking for first conference win

The Air Force Falcons fell to 1-5 on the season last Saturday, dropping a 51-48 high-scoring road game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, to the UNLV Running Rebels. The loss was the fifth straight for Air Force and keeps them winless in conference play at 0-4.

"I thought we got outplayed in the second half to put it mildly. That's a credit to UNLV. I thought at the line of scrimmage, they moved us around on both sides of the ball. I think just being able to run the ball straight down hill, running a couple pretty sound runs, they were pretty effective doing it. A couple of key points: I thought the fumble where they turned around a few plays after that and was able to convert that into a touchdown was a big play. It was that segment right in there was a really big part of it. And just us, our inability to sustain any drive in the second half. You know, to score 28 points in the first half and the first 24 minutes of the second half, not put anything together. It's a credit to their (UNLV) guys, I thought they played really, really well.” Head coach Troy Calhoun said after the game.

Air Force nearly pulled off its first conference win of the season, missing a game-tying field goal late in the game. Driving down the field in the final 30 seconds, the Falcons missed a 23-yard field goal that would have knotted the game with just two seconds left. Air Force finished with 603 yards of total offense, including 495 yards on the ground. Fullback Owen Allen led the way with a career-high 192 yards rushing. Quarterback Liam Szarka rushed for 136 yards. Allen, Szarka, and wide receiver Cade Harris all rushed for two touchdowns in the contest. Harris finished with 91 total yards, 45 yards on the ground, and 46 yards on four catches. Szarka finished 10-of-17 for 177 yards through the air.

The Air Force defense couldn’t support the team’s offense on Saturday. The Falcons allowed 597 yards of total offense to UNLV, including 377 through the air. Linebacker Blake Fletcher led Air Force with 10 tackles, the fourth time this season he has led the team in tackles. Fellow linebacker Dallas Daley added a career-high eight tackles.

Air Force is ranked 16th in the country in points per game. The Falcons are 19th in rushing and 70th in passing. The team is 34th in red zone offense. They are 37th in the country in sacks allowed per game. Defensively, the Falcons are ranked 136th in the country in points allowed per game. The team is 133rd against the run and 136th against the pass. They are 88th in red zone defense. The team has struggled to get to the quarterback, ranked 132nd in sacks per game. Air Force is ranked 116th in turnover margin and 35th in penalty yards per game.

Key Injuries: QB Josh Johnson, WR Tre Roberson, and WR Quin Smith are questionable.

Air Force vs. Wyoming Pick

Point Spread pick for Air Force vs. Wyoming

  • Air Force -3.5 (4 units)

Air Force is chasing its first conference win as the team hosts Wyoming this week. This could be a great opportunity to get in the win column. The Falcons are 16th in the country in points per game and have the 19th-ranked rushing attack. That should serve them well against a Wyoming team that is 96th in the country against the run. While Air Force has the worst-scoring defense in the country, Wyoming does not score well. The Cowboys are 114th in the nation in scoring. They struggle in the red zone as well, ranked just 113th in red zone offense. Air Force will give up points, but the Falcons’ offense is far more potent and will outscore Wyoming at home on Saturday.

Take the Falcons -3.5

Over/Under Pick for Wyoming at Air Force

  • Over 58.5  (5 units)

The Falcons not only score at will, but the team also gives up points at will. Both teams also turn the ball over at an alarming rate. Air Force is 116th in the country in turnover margin, while Wyoming checks in at 116th in the nation. Air Force is efficient in the red zone offensively and comes off a game in which they combined for 1200 total yards of offense with UNLV. This should be a back-and-forth affair that gets over the number.
