The Rockies are horrendous
The Colorado Rockies had just one hit at Dodger Stadium last Monday. Chase Dollander put on a rare strong performance for the Rockies, allowing one earned run on one hit and two walks, but it wasn’t enough. Angel Chivilli gave up two runs in relief, and the Rocks extended their losing streak to three games.
The Rockies are the worst team in baseball by far. They’ve lost 14 of their previous 17 games overall. The Rockies are slashing .273/.323/.387 in the last 10 days, while their bullpen has amassed a 5.40 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and a .298 batting average against during that span.
Kyle Freeland will toe the slab at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night. The 32-year-old left-hander is 4-14 with a pedestrian 5.10 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 27 starts (139.1 innings pitched) this season. Last Friday, Freeland pitched lights out in a 3-0 victory over the Padres, striking out 10 across eight scoreless innings.
Freeland is 5-11 with a 4.80 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 25 career starts against the Dodgers. He met them once in 2025, tossing four innings of a two-run, six-hit ball in a no-decision. The current Dodgers are 51-for-196 with 15 doubles and nine home runs against Freeland.
The Dodgers hope to stay on track
The Los Angeles Dodgers mustered just four hits last Monday, as their pitching staff lifted them over the Rockies. Tyler Glasnow fanned 11 across seven hitless innings, while Tanner Scott recorded his 21st save in 2025.
It was the Dodgers’ second win in a row. Last Sunday, they beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 to snap a five-game skid. The Dodgers are hitting .236/.310/370 in the past 10 days, while their bullpen has compiled a 6.46 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and a .239 batting average against. Los Angeles was topping the NL West on Tuesday morning, just one game above the Padres.
Blake Snell will toe the rubber on Wednesday night. The 32-year-old lefty is 3-4 with a 3.19 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in eight starts (42.1 IP) in 2025. He struggled last Thursday, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and three walks through five innings in a 5-3 loss at the Pirates.
Snell is 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 13 career starts against Colorado. He will meet the Rockies for the first time this season. The current Rockies are 4-for-29 with a couple of doubles and home runs against Snell.
Rockies vs. Dodgers Pick
Spread Pick for Rockies vs. Dodgers
- Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (5 units)
Kyle Freeland is coming off his best performance of the season, but I highly doubt his chances of replicating that display at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers know Freeland very well and have a strong record against the Rockies’ lefty.
Over the last 10 days, the Dodgers have recorded a .722 OPS and 105 wRC+ against the lefties, while the Rockies have registered a .717 OPS and 89 wRC+ versus the southpaws. Blake Snell can only pitch better than he did against Pittsburgh last time out, so I’m backing the Dodgers to beat the runline.
Over/Under Pick for Rockies vs. Dodgers
- Over (5 runs)
I expect the Dodgers’ lineup to make a difference in this game. Kyle Freeland will allow a few runs after that terrific performance against San Diego, and the Rockies could score a run or two off Blake Snell.
As I mentioned above, these two bullpens have struggled a lot lately. I don’t trust them at all, so give me the over on the total.
The Rockies’ pitching staff is arguably the worst in the majors. Colorado has allowed seven or more runs in six of its previous 10 games overall.
