The new NBA season is about to begin with some great matchups on Wednesday, Oct. 22. Read our Detroit Pistons vs Chicago Bulls prediction along with our other NBA Picks! Expectations are high for the Pistons. They finished the regular season in sixth in the East last year as they bowed out of the playoffs in the first round. Cade Cunningham is a rising star for Detroit and is expected to take his game to another level. The Bulls ended last year in 10th in the East as their season ended in the play-in tournament. These two teams will meet with tip-off set for 8 P.M. EST.

Expectations high for Detroit this season

Last season, the Pistons put together a strong campaign in JB Bickerstaff’s first season as head coach. Detroit ended the year with a 44-38, which placed them No. 6 in the East. The Pistons lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Knicks in six games. It did mark Detroit’s first playoff win since 2008.

Leading the Pistons is Cade Cunningham. The rising star had an amazing season last year. He led the team with 26.1 points and 9.1 assists per game. He also added 6.1 rebounds per game. Jaden Ivey, who only played in 30 games last year, along with Jalen Duren, are expected to have big seasons, too.

Two big additions for the Pistons include Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson. LeVert averaged 12 points per game last season with the Cavaliers before being traded to the Hawks. Robinson averaged 11 points for the Heat last season as he was traded to Detroit in the offseason. Robinson’s 3-point shooting will be key as he has a career 39.7% from deep.

Last year, Detroit averaged 115.5 points per game, which ranked 12th in the league. They hit 47% from the field, ranking 13th best. The Pistons were also the 17th-ranked 3-point shooting team. The defense allowed 113.6 points per gam,e which ranked 14th best, too. The Pistons were also the ninth-best field goal defensive team.

Defense needs to improve for the Bulls

Chicago ended last year with a 39-43 record. They finished as the No. 10 seed in the East and reached the Play-In Tournament. The Bulls ended the regular season winning 15 of their last 20 games. The lone addition to the team was trading for Isaac Okoro from the Cavaliers, who they sent Lonzo Ball in his place.

The team’s starting five from last year’s end-of-season run is back. The team’s leading scorer in Coby White, is back along with fellow guard Josh Giddy. Kevin Hurter, second-year player Matas Buzeli,s and Nikola Vucevic are all back. White led the team with 20.4 points while Vucevic added 18.5 points per game.

The Bulls did not sign any new players in free agency. Their big addition is rookie Noah Essengue, whom they picked No. 12 in the draft. The 18-year-old forward from France is a raw talent and could make an impact from the bench in this game.

Last year, Chicago was the sixth-highest scoring team in the league. They averaged 117.8 points per game. The Bulls also shot 47% from the field, which ranked 15th, while they were also the 12th-ranked 3-point shooting team. Defense was a real issue for the Bulls as they allowed 119.4 points per game, which was the third-worst mark. The Bulls also allowed the second-most rebounds per game, too. Chicago was the second fastest team in the league as well.

Pistons vs Bulls Picks

Pistons vs Bulls Spread Pick

  • Detroit Pistons -4 (5 units)

I expect this season to be a big one for Cade Cunningham. He should have another All-Star level campaign and send Detroit inside a top-four seed in the East. It all starts in this game and he’s going to show why he’s one of the top young players in the league. His supporting cast has improved with great shooting from Duncan Robinson and Caris LeVert. The health of Jaden Ivey and his return will be great for the team, too.

The Bulls earned the No. 10 seed last season and the roster didn’t change over the offseason. Chicago is riding with their same roster that was one of the worst defensively. It’s hard to see that not change with Nikola Vucevic remaining as the lone rim protector. Expect Detroit to feast on offense and come away with easy baskets, especially in transition.

Take the Pistons to cover.

Pistons vs Bulls Over/Under Pick

  • Over 233 (5 units)

The Bulls are bringing back their roster from last year with very little change. While the defense was poor, there was one constant: the team’s speed. They have a true identity under head coach Billy Donovan, and that is to push the ball at all costs. Chicago was the second fastest team in the league. Along with their poor defense and a fast tempo, this will be a high-scoring game in their first game of the season.

Take the over on Wednesday.
