Will Memphis move Ja Morant?
The direction of the Memphis Grizzlies franchise has shifted fast. Last season, despite holding a 44-29 record late in the season, the team decided to fire head coach Taylor Jenkins. With Tuomas Iisalo now leading the way, the franchise appears closer to being headed toward future lottery picks than playoff runs.
Memphis is on a three-game losing streak after being embarrassed 131-95 in Boston on Wednesday night. To make matters worse for the long term, there seems to be a major disconnect between the coaching staff and superstar Ja Morant. The game against the Celtics was on the second night of a back-to-back, so Morant did not play, but even when he has been available this season, he has been underwhelming. While 18.9 points per game is not terrible, it is the lowest Morant has posted since his rookie season in 2019-20. He is also shooting just 16.7% from three, and his body language has looked off, suggesting issues beyond the box score.

Cavs going under the radar
The Cleveland Cavaliers breezed through the regular season last year, going 64-18 before a disappointing second-round playoff exit to the Indiana Pacers. This season, the Cavs aim to contend for the Eastern Conference title, but the start has been underwhelming compared to last seasonโs 15-0 start. Cleveland has dealt with injuries to Darius Garland and also lost key sixth man Ty Jerome to Memphis in free agency, which has not helped the momentum.
The Cavs have dropped two of their last three games, including a 126-113 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Thursday. Donovan Mitchell scored 31 points but struggled from deep, going 2-for-9 from three, although he did go 15-for-17 at the line. In the Toronto loss, Cleveland shot poorly, hitting just 10-of-41 from long range.
Mitchell has appeared in 11 of the teamโs 13 games and leads the way with 30.5 points and 5.5 assists per game. Evan Mobley has played in 10 games, averaging 19 points and a team-best 8.7 rebounds. DeโAndre Hunter is next at 18.9 points per game, followed by Jarrett Allen at 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds.
Memphis Grizzlies vs Cleveland Cavaliers Predictions
ATS Pick for Grizzlies vs. Cavs
- Cleveland -10.5 (3 units)
The Cavaliers have been inconsistent and have struggled recently against teams with losing records, but this feels like a good get-right spot. Because of the loss to Toronto, I donโt see Cleveland overlooking Memphis here. The Cavs also had significant edges, ranking 11th in offensive efficiency and 13th in defensive efficiency. Memphis ranks just 22nd defensively, 27th offensively, and is also 2-13-1 ATS in their last 16 road games against teams with winning home records.
The Cavs are the play.
Total Pick for Grizzlies vs. Cavs
- Over 237.5 (5 units)
This total is high, but Cleveland has been scoring in bunches. The Cavs have scored at least 128 points in four of their last six games, and theyโre facing a Memphis team that has allowed 133 and 131 points in its last two outings. Even with Memphis struggling on offense, Cleveland has given up 115 or more points in six straight games, so take the over.
