The Brewers hope for another gem from Freddy Peralta
The Milwaukee Brewers finished the last week with a three-game series sweep over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Brew Crew started a six-game road trip in style, outscoring the Pirates 19-5 in the process.
Milwaukee boasts the best record in baseball. On Monday morning, the Brewers were 5.5 games ahead of the second-best team in the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies. Milwaukee has won six of its previous nine games overall while scoring 48 runs on a solid .277/.347/.434 triple-slash.
During that nine-game stretch, the Brewers have recorded a 3.04 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, while their bullpen has accounted for a 4.18 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. Freddy Peralta is projected to toe the slab at Globe Life Field on Tuesday night, and the 29-year-old right-hander carries a 16-5 record with a sharp 2.50 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 29 starts (158.2 innings pitched) in 2025.
Peralta hasn’t allowed a single run in five straight starts. Over his previous five showings, the two-time All-Star has given up just nine hits and 12 walks across 28 innings of work. Peralta is 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in two career starts and one relief appearance against Texas, and the current Rangers are 8-for-35 with a home run against him.
The Rangers continue to chase the wild card
The Texas Rangers started a six-game homestand over the weekend, winning a three-game series against the Houston Astros. The Rangers sandwiched a heavy 11-0 defeat with a 4-3 extra-inning victory in the opener and a 4-2 win in the closer.
Texas has won eight of its previous 11 games overall. The Rangers have scored 68 runs on a .270/.334/.461 triple-slash during that stretch, while their bullpen has recorded a 5.20 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. Texas was just 1.5 games behind the final wild-card spot in the American League on Monday morning.
Jack Leiter is expected to toe the rubber on Tuesday night. The 25-year-old right-hander is 9-8 with a 3.74 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 25 starts (127.2 IP) this season. He’s allowed more than two runs just once in his previous nine starts.
Leiter has never met the Brewers before. He’s 4-3 with a strong 2.42 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in nine interleague starts in his young career.
Brewers vs. Rangers Pick
Moneyline Pick for Brewers vs. Rangers
- Milwaukee Brewers (4 units)
It’s hard to bet against the Brewers, especially when they have Freddy Peralta on the mound. Milwaukee is 11-4 in Peralta’s last 15 starts. Peralta has been pitching lights out lately, so I can only look at the Brewers in this game.
The Rangers haven’t impressed against the right-handed pitchers in the past 10 days, posting a .685 OPS and 92 wRC+. On the other side, the Brewers have registered a .784 OPS and 120 wRC+ against the righties during that span.
Texas misses its best bat, as Corey Seager (.860 OPS, 21 HR) is on the IL. The Brewers might miss Christian Yelich (.814 OPS, 27 HR) due to a back injury. Yelich hasn’t played since September 1 and is considered day-to-day.
Over/Under Pick for Brewers vs. Rangers
- Under (4 runs)
With Freddy Peralta and Jack Leiter on the mound, the under looks like a way to go. I noted how good Freddy Peralta has been of late. He’ll slow down eventually, but I don’t expect the Rangers to score more than a run or two off Peralta.
Jack Leiter has been pitching well, too. He went 2-1 with a 2.76 ERA in August (six starts, 29.1 IP), and last Wednesday, Leiter gave up two earned runs on three hits and three walks across six innings in a 2-0 loss at the Diamondbacks.
There are a lot of dangerous arms in these two bullpens. The stake is huge, and I’m looking for a low-scoring affair.
