Best record in baseball
The Brewers have built their NL Central lead on outstanding pitching, led by Freddy Peralta (16-5, 2.50 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 176 K), who is delivering Cy Young-caliber performances all season. Over his last five starts, Peralta has kept opponents to fewer than three runs in four outings, showing power and command. Milwaukee’s bats have been consistent hitting for .272 average and .338 OBP over their last 10 games though power production is modest with only one home run per game and 9.4 hits per contest.
The Brewers routinely put pressure on opposing pitchers through patient at-bats and solid contact. Most importantly, Milwaukee’s bullpen is a plus: posting a 3.90 ERA over the past 10, with a strong 1.40 WHIP and enough strikeouts to close out tight games. After dropping two straight, the Brewers have the playoff-tested resilience and depth to bounce back behind their ace.
Rangers surging in AL West
Texas enters this matchup still hunting for playoff security. After winning the first two games of this series, the Rangers are now just a single game behind the Mariners for the final Wild Card and 2.5 back of the Astros in the AL West. Merrill Kelly (11-7, 3.16 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 156 K) has emerged as a pivotal arm in the rotation, regularly pitching deep and limiting baserunners.
Offensively, the Rangers have struggled to generate consistent offense. Over the last 10 games, they are batting just .234 with one HR and eight hits per contest, relying on timely hits more than power outbursts. The bullpen remains a concern, allowing a 4.58 ERA in the past 10 and showing vulnerability in close games, though the recent two wins offer some momentum.
Spread/Moneyline Pick
- Rangers +1.5 (-155) – 4 Units
It’s never easy to fade the Brewers, especially with Freddy Peralta on the mound and Milwaukee looking to avoid a third straight loss. Still, the urgency here lies with Texas, who are fighting for their postseason lives while the Brewers are already secure. Merrill Kelly gives the Rangers a strong shot to keep this one close: active Brewers are just 6-for-47 (.128 AVG) against him, and Texas has won each of Kelly’s last three starts. With the moneyline heavily tilted toward Milwaukee, I’ll grab the run and a half with Texas to stay within striking distance.
Over/Under Pick
- Under 7.5 – 4 Units
This matchup sets up as a pitcher’s duel. Peralta has been nearly unhittable, posting a 0.27 ERA over his last six outings while allowing just one run in 33 innings. On the other side, Kelly has owned Milwaukee, going 3-1 with a 1.45 ERA across his last five starts against them. Both starters are in peak form, so the under is the clear play at this number.
