Diamondbacks Building Momentum Behind Improved Pitching

Arizona is coming off a 9-1 win over Colorado after splitting a four-game series against Texas earlier in the week. The Diamondbacks have won three of the last five games and continue to remain competitive because of improved pitching during May. Arizona allowed only seven total runs across its last three victories entering this matchup.

The Diamondbacks are hitting .237 with a .302 on-base percentage and .388 slugging percentage, producing 188 runs on 337 hits. Ildemaro Vargas has been the top offensive contributor with a .347 batting average, seven home runs, and 30 RBI, while Corbin Carroll owns a .378 OBP with five home runs and six stolen bases. Nolan Arenado has added six home runs and 20 RBI, and Ketel Marte has contributed five home runs. Arizona has totaled 37 home runs and 81 doubles through 43 games this season.

Pitching has been slightly inconsistent overall, but Arizona enters with a 4.42 ERA and 1.27 WHIP while holding opponents to a .240 batting average. The Diamondbacks have recorded 318 strikeouts and issued 136 walks. Arizona’s rotation has performed better recently, helping the team stay competitive despite inconsistent offensive stretches.

Rockies Still Struggling to Find Consistency

Colorado is coming off a 9-1 loss to Arizona after dropping three of its previous four games. The Rockies continue to struggle on the mound and have now allowed 25 runs over their last four losses. Colorado has also gone just 8-12 at home this season despite playing at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

The Rockies are hitting .245 with a .313 on-base percentage and .395 slugging percentage, producing 189 runs on 373 hits. Mickey Moniak has been the offensive leader with 12 home runs, 26 RBI, and a .306 batting average, while Troy Johnston is batting .318 with a .379 OBP. TJ Rumfield has added six home runs and 22 RBI, and Hunter Goodman owns 11 home runs with a .513 slugging percentage. Colorado has totaled 44 home runs and 82 doubles this season while continuing to generate offense through extra-base hits.

Pitching remains the biggest problem for Colorado entering this matchup. The Rockies carry a 4.93 ERA and 1.44 WHIP while opponents are batting .272 against the staff. Colorado has allowed 61 home runs and recorded only six quality starts through 45 games. The bullpen has also struggled late in games, contributing heavily to the team’s recent losses.

Pitching Matchup

Arizona Diamondbacks – Michael Soroka

Soroka is 5-2 with a 3.53 ERA and 1.32 WHIP across 43.1 innings. The right-hander has allowed 45 hits with 47 strikeouts and only 12 walks while surrendering four home runs. Soroka threw 6.1 scoreless innings against Texas in his most recent outing.

Colorado Rockies – Michael Lorenzen

Lorenzen is 2-5 with a 6.55 ERA and 1.84 WHIP over 44.0 innings. The right-hander has allowed 67 hits with 31 strikeouts and 14 walks while giving up seven home runs this season.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Colorado Rockies Spread Pick

  • Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks have the advantage because of stronger recent pitching and a clear edge in the starting matchup. Soroka has delivered quality outings consistently over the last two weeks, while Lorenzen has struggled badly, giving up too many hits and allowing too many baserunners. Arizona also enters with momentum after the 9-1 victory Friday night, putting the Diamondbacks in a strong position to win.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs Colorado Rockies Over/Under Pick

  • Over

This game will cash over as Colorado’s pitching continues to struggle at Coors Field. The Rockies have allowed 25 runs across their last four losses, and both teams have enough power hitters to capitalize on extra baserunners. With Lorenzen carrying a 6.55 ERA and Arizona swinging the bats well recently, scoring opportunities should be available throughout the matchup.
