Arizona is set to start Zac Gallen (3.00 ERA) with Philly sending out Andrew Painter (4.82 ERA). Arizona Wins Five of Six
The Arizona Diamondbacks are enjoying playing teams from the NL East recently, as they have won five of their last six games against opponents from that division. They won the last two games of a series in Atlanta, took two of three at home against the Mets, and now opened up this set with a close win on Friday night in Philadelphia.
In Friday's win, Ketel Marte had two RBIs from the top of the lineup to help lead the team to victory. Marte is a three time All-Star, and has made that roster each of the past two seasons. So far this year, the second baseman has one home run and six RBIs, but is off to a slow start at the plate, batting just .193. Corbin Carroll did not play on Friday, as he has been bothered by a hip injury, but is listed as day-to-day instead of heading to the IL. Carroll has two home runs and is batting .333 to start the year.
Zac Gallen will make his fourth start of the season as a 30-year old right hander. He has gone 1-1 in those three starts, with nine strikeouts against six walks. In his last outing, Gallen pitched five innings, giving up five hits and two runs to the Mets in a loss.
Phillies Slip in Standings
The Philadelphia Phillies have made a home near the top of the NL East standings over the past several seasons, but currently find themselves in fourth place, only ahead of the Nationals. Philly has lost their last three coming into Saturday, as they also dropped their last two games on the road against the Giants.
Brandon Marsh blasted a three-run home run in the first inning on Friday night, but the Phils were not able to hold on to the lead as they ultimately lost 5-4. Marsh was batting cleanup as their left fielder, and has two homers and nine RBIs on the season while batting .273 at the plate. Kyle Schwarber already has three home runs on the young season, he bats second as their DH. Bryce Harper bats third as their first baseman, he has added another two home runs and eight RBIs so far.
Andrew Painter will make his third start of the season as a 23-year old right hander. This is his rookie season, and he is a presence on the mound standing 6'7. The Phillies picked up a win in each of his first two starts, though he did give up four earned runs over four innings in his last game against the Giants.
Diamondbacks vs. Phillies Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Diamondbacks vs. Phillies
- Diamondbacks Moneyline (5 units)
The Phillies are off to a slow start this season, and it will continue on Sunday with their rookie pitcher on the mound. The Phils got lucky last time Painter was pitching, as he gave up four runs in four innings, but their offense was able to bail them out. That will not happen here, as Gallen is a veteran presence on the mound for Arizona. Gallen does not make many mistakes, as he has only given up one home run over his first three games, and he took on some strong offenses in the Dodgers, Tigers and Mets. The Diamondbacks steal an afternoon victory before leaving town.
Take the Diamondbacks to win.
Over/Under Pick for Diamondbacks vs. Phillies
- Over (4 units)
These offenses have both been hot recently, with plenty of firepower in each lineup. Arizona has gone over in each of their last three games heading into Saturday, including putting up seven runs in each of their last two games against the Mets. The first game of this series went over on Friday night, and Painter is starting just his third game of his MLB career. Painter gave up four runs last time he was on the mound, and Arizona will be ready for him here. Expect a high scoring game.
Take the over.
