Arizona is Running out of Time
The Arizona Diamondbacks are fourth in the NL West, but their hopes for a playoff spot are running low, as the season is ready to draw to a close. Arizona is 4.5 games out of the final playoff spot in the Wild Card race in the National League, but would need to pass out three other teams to grab that last Wild Card slot. The Diamondbacks lost the first game of this series 11-5, despite getting a home run and two RBIs from Gabriel Moreno in the loss.
Moreno is their 25-year-old catcher who is in his third season with the D-Backs after playing one year in Toronto to start his career. He has his career high in home runs this season with eight, to go with 33 RBIs and his .283 batting average. He has been taking the cleanup spot in their lineup in the past few lineups. Ketel Marte had three hits in their first game against the Giants. He was an All-Star this season and added 25 home runs and 64 RBIs. Matre has been batting second in the lineup as their shortstop with a .287 batting average.
Eduardo Rodriguez will make his 26th start of the season as a 32-year-old left-hander. He has a 7-8 record to go with his 5.22 ERA. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is 124 to 53. In his last start, Rodriguez gave up one run in six innings in a win over the Red Sox.
Giants Hold Third Place
The San Francisco Giants hold on to third place in the NL West, but their playoff chances are not that much better than Arizona's as they look to close out this series against their divisional rivals. The Giants are currently seven games behind the division-leading Dodgers, and three games out of the final Wild Card spot. They are the first team out of playoff position, but would need to pass out the Mets to get that final bid.
The Giants put up 11 runs in their first game against the D-Backs in this series, on their way to 11 runs and the win. Heliot Ramos is their left fielder and lead-off hitter. He had a home run in the game to go with two RBIs and is now up to 17 home runs and 61 RBIs on the year. Ramos is in his fourth season, all of which were played with the Giants, and he is looking to surpass his home run total of 22 from last year. Matt Chapman also had a home run in the game, the 32-year-old veteran now has 21 homers to go with his 56 RBIs on the season.
The Giants are starting Carson Seymour for his third start of the season, though he did make ten other appearances out of the bullpen. His ERA is 4.25 to go with his 20-12 strikeout to walk ratio. In his last start, Seymour gave up one run in five innings in his win over the Cardinals.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants Pick
Moneyline Pick for Diamondbacks vs. Giants
- Diamondbacks (4 units)
The Diamondbacks are sending out a veteran pitcher, while San Francisco is trying to work Seymour into their starting rotation. Rodriguez has been in their starting rotation all year and has led his team to a win in four of his last five starts. This includes three games where he allowed one or fewer runs. Rodriguez recently pitched six scoreless innings in a win over the Dodgers. On the other side of the card, Seymour is primarily a reliever who must start out of necessity for the Giants. Seymour has only 20 strikeouts on the entire year and has not pitched over five innings all season. The Diamondbacks roll here.
Take the Diamondbacks to win.
Over/Under Pick for Diamondbacks vs. Giants
- Over (4 units)
Rodriguez is the better pitcher in this matchup, but he has still had his fair share of ups and downs recently. For every good showing he has, he will mix in a poor performance as he did against the Brewers, where he allowed five earned runs, or against the Guardians, where he gave up four. These games were both recent, and the San Francisco offense will be able to generate offense here. San Francisco starts Seymour, he has only started two games all season, and in one of them, he gave up four runs to the Orioles before the fourth inning.
Take the over.
