Dodgers struggles on the road continue

The Dodgers are 78-62 overall this season. They are in first place in the National League West division. Los Angeles is two games ahead of the Padres for the top spot in the division. The Dodgers are 33-36 when they are playing on the road. The Dodgers have been struggling recently losing five of their last six games. In their last game, the Dodgers lost 5-3 to the Pirates on Thursday, Sept. 4. Pittsburgh came away with the three-game sweep of the Dodgers. Los Angeles have lost 10 of their last 13 road games.

Tyler Glasnow gets the start for the Dodgers on the road. The right-handed pitcher is 1-3 with a 3.41 ERA in 14 starts this season. Glasnow’s latest start saw him throw seven innings against Arizona on Aug. 30. He allowed three runs and four hits in a 6-1 loss. The Dodgers are 6-8 when Glasnow has started this season. He has an ERA of 5.68 in five starts when pitching on the road. In eight starts, Glasnow has a 3.35 ERA since the All-Star break. He has made three starts against American League teams and he’s given up three runs in 16.2 innings pitched.

The Dodgers are hitting .252 this season, which ranks eighth in the league. They have scored the third most runs in the league while they rank ninth in hits. Los Angeles has also hit the second most home runs on the season. They are hitting .243 when playing on the road and .255 against the American League. Los Angeles also has a .242 batting average in the second half of the season.

Orioles remain in American League East basement

Baltimore is 64-76 overall this season. They are in last place in the American League East. The Orioles are 17 games back of the Blue Jays. They are also seven games out of Tampa Bay to avoid being in last place. The Orioles have won four of their last five games coming into Friday. They are coming off of a great series where they swept the Padres on the road. In their last game, the Orioles won 7-5 away from home on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

On Friday, the Orioles are set to start Dean Kremer. The right-handed pitcher is 9-10 with a 4.52 ERA in 26 starts and one relief appearance. Kremer’s last start saw him threw three innings as he gave up seven runs and nine hits in a 15-8 loss to the Giants on Aug. 29. Baltimore is 10-16 when Kremer has started this season. He has an ERA of 3.26 when pitching at home. He also has an ERA of 5.17 in the second half of the season. He has made eight starts against National League clubs and he has an ERA of 7.78 in those matchups.

The Orioles are hitting .242 this season, which ranks 21st in the league. They rank 17th in runs scored, while they also have the 21st most hits. Baltimore ranks 12th in home runs, but they have also struck out the seventh most times. The Orioles are hitting .253 during home games this year. They are hitting .247 in the second half of the season. They have a .239 batting average against National League clubs.

Spread Pick for Dodgers vs. Orioles

  • Baltimore Orioles -1.5

The Dodgers are leading the National League East division, and they are moving towards clinching another playoff berth. But, I don’t think Friday will be a day of victory for Los Angeles. The Dodgers have lost 10 of their last 13 road games. The Dodgers are starting Tyler Glasnow, who has a 5.68 ERA in five road starts. The Dodgers are 6-8 when he has started. The Orioles have been playing better recently, winning four of their last five games which includes a three-game winning streak over San Diego. The Orioles are starting Dean Kremer, who has a 3.26 ERA at home this year. It will be a close game, but Baltimore’s string of good play this week gives me confidence.

Take the Orioles to cover.

Over/Under pick for Dodgers vs. Orioles

  • Over 8.5 runs

The Orioles are starting Dean Kremer, who has a 7.78 ERA in eight games against National League clubs. Tyler Glasnow has a 5.68 ERA during road games, which means the offense will be the star of the show in this game.  Baltimore is hitting .253 during home games. The Dodgers are hitting .255 against American League clubs, too.

Take the over on Friday.
