Cubs Remain Atop Division Standings

Jameson Taillon will get the nod on Saturday. Taillon was outstanding in his previous outing, keeping Texas to just one run in 5.1 innings pitched, but had no help from the offense and was tagged with the loss. The veteran righty has conceded three or fewer runs in all but one outing and has given up 11 home runs. Taillon has recorded a 3.04 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP, accompanied by a 2-2 record in 51 innings. He has 40 strikeouts. Tailspin has a 4.41 ERA and a 1-0 record in 32.2 career innings against the White Sox.

The Chicago Cubs are enjoying a dominating season and stand atop the division standings ahead of Milwaukee. The Cubs had won 10 games in a row in a streak that ended last weekend. They have cooled down a bit, dropping two of three road meetings against Texas last weekend. Next, the squad was hit with a series loss by the Braves this week. They scored five runs while the pitching staff conceded nine runs. The Cubs are 10-11 on the road.

Nico Hoerner has cooled down this month but has strong numbers on the season, amassing 29 RBIs and a .752 OPS. The veteran second baseman posted a robust 1.1 OPS against the White Sox last season. Alex Bergman has been inconsistent in his first season as a member of the Cubs, yielding a .605 OPS in May. The third baseman has netted 14 RBIs and a .690 OPS.

Pete Crow-Armstrong has not been consistent enough, recording a .706 OPS this month. The speedy outfielder has 17 RBIs and a .679 OPS. Ian Happ has been a power threat, clubbing 10 big flies with 19 RBIs. Seiya Suzuki is swinging a hot bat, posting 10 RBIs in his past 10 games. The slugger has seven homers with 16 RBIs and an .856 OPS on the season.

Chicago is averaging 5.00 runs per game, ranking them sixth. The pitching is also a strength, recording a 3.78 ERA, placing them 10th in the big leagues.

Martin Gets the Start on Saturday

Davis Martin will get the nod on Saturday. Martin was solid in his recent outing, conceding just one run in six innings against the Mariners, and was awarded the win. The righty has been a huge surprise. He has been dominant, yielding zero or one run in five of his past six outings and is sporting a 1.62 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP, accompanied by a 5-1 record in 50 innings pitched. He has 52 strikeouts. This is his first career meeting against the Cubs.

The Chicago White Sox are a young squad with potential. They are only a few games out of first in a weak division. Chicago secured a series win against the Mariners last weekend, led by the bats, scoring 16 runs. The group had more success after posting a dominant sweep against the Royals this week, scoring 16 runs and squandering 12 runs. The White Sox are 12-9 at home this season.

Miguel Vargas has been a tough out, producing a .927 OPS in May. The 26-year-old third baseman is having a tremendous season, bashing 9 homers and driving in 23 runs. Andrew Benintendi had a big series against the Cubs last season, belting two homers with five RBIs. The 31-year-old has registered 17 RBIs on the season.

Chase Meidroth has posted a hit in all but two games this month. The young second baseman only has seven RBIs but has added a stellar .920 OPS. Sam Antonucci has displayed his promising future, driving in nine runs along with an .827 OPS in 26 games. Munetaka Murakami has been the White Sox's most dangerous hitter. The 26-year-old rookie out of Japan has smashed 15 home runs with 29 RBIs and a .905 OPS.

Chicago is posting an average of 4.30 runs on the season, marking them 12th. The White Sox have issued a 4.22 ERA, placing them 19th.

Cubs vs. White Sox Pick

Spread Pick for Cubs vs. White Sox

  • Chicago White Sox -105 (5 units)

The Chicago Cubs are obviously a strong team, but have cooled down in the last week. They have lost two straight series and are near the end of a challenging nine-game road trek. The Chicago White Sox are a hungry, young team having success. They have won two straight series, including a series triumph against the Mariners, and they just earned a sweep against the Royals this week.

Furthermore, Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon has been subpar in his career against the White Sox, posting a 4.40 ERA. White Sox pitcher Davis Martin has quietly been one of the best pitchers in the big leagues. Martin has conceded either zero or one run in five straight outings, and it’s no surprise the White Sox are 5-0 in that span.

Over/Under Pick for Cubs vs. White Sox

  • Under 8.5 (5 units)

I expect this one to go under. The Chicago Cubs have scored two or fewer runs in five straight games. Davis Martin has been outstanding. The righty has issued a minuscule 1.02 ERA and a 2-0 record at home. Martin kept a decent Mariners offense to one run in his recent home start.

In addition, Taillon has also been steady, conceding two or fewer runs in all but one of his outings this season. The White Sox are hot at the dish, but it is due to regress, considering it is a younger, unproven lineup. The under is a convincing 6-0 in the Cubs' past six games.
