The Chicago Cubs (44-37) and Milwaukee Brewers (49-29) continue their division rivalry on Saturday evening from American Family Field. Milwaukee has controlled the season series so far, winning all three meetings, and will look to keep that momentum going behind one of the National League's hottest pitchers.

Cubs facing a challenge

Chicago has remained competitive this season thanks to timely offense, but several concerns make this a difficult matchup. The Cubs have yet to announce a starting pitcher, leaving questions about whether they will use a bullpen game or turn to a less experienced arm against one of the National League's better offenses. That uncertainty is magnified against a Brewers team that has already won the first three meetings in this season series.

Pete Crow-Armstrong has been the catalyst for Chicago's lineup, leading the club with 17 home runs while batting .287. Dansby Swanson has driven in a team-high 46 runs despite batting below .200, illustrating the Cubs' ability to capitalize with runners on base. As a team, Chicago ranks sixth in Major League Baseball with 399 runs scored while posting an excellent .337 on-base percentage that ranks third overall. However, the pitching staff has not matched the offense.

The Cubs own a 4.27 ERA and have surrendered 123 home runs, the most in baseball entering the weekend. Their strikeout numbers also rank near the bottom of the league, making it difficult to escape trouble against disciplined lineups consistently.

Brewers in first place

Milwaukee has quietly put together one of the most complete teams in baseball, and the Brewers are in another favorable spot entering Saturday's contest. The biggest advantage belongs on the mound, where Kyle Harrison has enjoyed a breakout campaign. Harrison enters at 8-1 with a sparkling 2.50 ERA, but his home numbers have been even more impressive. In six decisions at American Family Field, he is 5-1 with a microscopic 1.29 ERA while holding opposing hitters to just a .195 batting average. Current Cubs hitters have also struggled to solve Harrison, batting just .074 against him in previous meetings.

The Brewers have backed that elite pitching with a balanced offense. William Contreras is batting over .300, while Jake Bauers has supplied plenty of power with 14 home runs and 48 RBIs. Milwaukee ranks sixth in baseball with a .254 team batting average, fourth in runs scored, second in on-base percentage, and continues to pressure defenses with 77 stolen bases. The pitching staff has been even better.

Milwaukee ranks second in ERA (3.38), strikeouts (769), batting average against (.220), WHIP (1.18), and home runs allowed (73). Few teams have been as consistent on both sides of the ball. Considering Harrison's dominance at home and Chicago's struggles against him, Milwaukee owns a significant edge entering this matchup.

Chicago Cubs vs Milwaukee Brewers Prediction

Cubs vs Brewers Side Pick:

  • Brewers ML -164 (4 units)

The Brewers are the clear side in this matchup. Everything points toward Milwaukee holding the edge, beginning with the starting pitching advantage. Harrison has developed into one of the National League's most reliable arms, especially at home, where he owns a remarkable 1.29 ERA and has consistently worked deep into games. Chicago has managed almost nothing against him historically, batting just .074 as a group. Milwaukee also owns the superior pitching staff overall. The Brewers rank second in ERA, WHIP, strikeouts, batting average against, and home runs allowed, demonstrating consistency from both the rotation and bullpen. That becomes even more valuable with the Cubs entering the game without a confirmed starter. While Chicago's offense is capable of producing runs, much of its success has come from getting on base rather than overwhelming opponents with power. Milwaukee's ability to miss bats and limit hard contact should neutralize many of those strengths. The Brewers have already taken the first three meetings of the season series, and they enter this contest with home-field advantage and one of the hottest pitchers in baseball.

Laying a juicy price isn't ideal, but this is a matchup where the favorite deserves to be trusted. Until Chicago proves it can solve Harrison or slow down Milwaukee's pitching staff, the Brewers remain the stronger play.

Cubs vs Brewers Side Pick:

  • Under 8 (4 units)

It's hard to trust Chicago's offense against Harrison in this match-up. The Brewers' left-hander has been nearly unhittable at American Family Field, posting a 1.29 ERA while limiting opponents to a .195 batting average. Current Cubs hitters have had virtually no success against him, and overall Milwaukee's pitching staff has consistently been one of baseball's best, ranking second in ERA, WHIP, batting average against, strikeouts, and home runs allowed.

On the other side, Milwaukee should score enough to win but is unlikely to need a huge offensive performance if Harrison controls the game from the start. Unless Chicago unexpectedly breaks through against Harrison, this contest should lead to another lower-scoring NL Central matchup.
