White Sox hoping to avoid another 100-loss year

The Chicago White Sox come into Saturday’s game with the Tigers with 88 losses on the season. While they are on their way to another losing season, the White Sox have shown improvement from last year’s all-time worst season. They have put together a season-best six-game winning streak following a 7-5 win on Friday night in Detroit. Shortstop Colson Montgomery homered and drove in four runs to keep the wins coming for the ChiSox.

The playoffs are out of reach for the White Sox, but the organization has to be pleased with the team’s play over the past few weeks. They’ll try to keep their winning ways going on Sunday afternoon against the Tigers. The White Sox will go with righty Davis Martin taking the mound. Davis is 6-9 on the season in 22 appearances, including eight quality starts. He has allowed 117 hits in 122 innings of work. Davis has an ERA of 4.06 and a WHIP of 1.30. Tigers chasing the top spot

They have a nine-game cushion in the loss column over the second-place Kansas City Royals in the AL Central Division. The Tigers will look to get back in the win column on Saturday night after dropping the first game, 7-5. Starting pitcher Jack Flaherty went 4.1 innings and gave up four runs and six hits.

The Tigers have stumbled a bit recently, losing three of four games entering Saturday night’s game with the White Sox. They will try to keep pace with the Blue Jays on Sunday, sending veteran righty Charlie Morton to the hill. Morton was picked up at the trade deadline in a deal with the Orioles. He is 9-10 on the season in 29 appearances between the two teams, including nine quality starts. Morton has allowed 138 hits in 132.1 innings of work. He has an ERA of 5.51 and a WHIP of 1.51. Morton has walked 62 and struck out 140, and given up 21 home runs this year. The Tigers have lost three of Morton’s last five starts. He is 5-4 in 16 home appearances this season with an ERA of 5.53.

The Tigers will look to close out the series with a win over the White Sox as they chase the top spot in the American League. They should get some good swings at Davis on Sunday, given that Davis has modest strikeout numbers this season. Tigers’ starter Morton remains an above-average strikeout pitcher, even at this stage of his career. He’ll benefit from pitching behind a team that is one of the best daytime teams in baseball. The Tigers are 34-21 during the day this season and have a team batting average over .260 in the sunlight. The Tigers are also 45-28 at home entering play on Saturday, while the White Sox are 22 games below .500 on the road.

Take the Tigers with the money line.
