White Sox hope Smith and the lineup improve

The White Sox are having a season to forget but the bright spot is that it won’t be worse than last season’s tire fire. Shane Smith will start the upcoming game, and he looks to improve on what’s been a rough season as he’s allowed 59 runs in 120 innings pitched. Additionally, with a .407 expected opponent Slugging Percentage, a 47.2 Hard-Hit Percentage, and a 4.27 expected ERA, opponents are making hard contact and driving in runs at will against Smith this season.

Smith has struggled but the lineup has let the White Sox down, scoring only 3.99 runs per game. Mike Tauchman is slashing .271/.360/.408 with 122 total bases while Edgar Quero is slashing .284/.348/.389 with 115 total bases but the rest of the lineup has struggled. Only four active batters have an OPS+ over 100, and opponents can eliminate the hapless lineup as a result.

Detroit hopes lineup helps out Flaherty

The Tigers are having a great season and hope to finish with the best record in the American League. Jack Flaherty will start the upcoming game, and he looks to improve on what’s been a rough season as he’s allowed 77 runs and 142 innings pitched. Moreover, with a .428 expected opponent Slugging Percentage, an 11.1 Barrel Percentage, and a 4.07 expected ERA, opponents are making hard contact and driving in runs with ease against Flaherty this season.

Flaherty has struggled but the lineup has carried the Tigers all season, scoring 4.82 runs per game. Riley Greene is slashing .269/.324/.511 with 32 home runs and 268 total bases while Spencer Torkelson is slashing .238/.332/.466 with 28 home runs and 227 total bases but the rest of the lineup has also stepped up. Zach McKinstry is slashing .267/.346/.449 with 11 home runs and 183 total bases while Wenceel Perez and Gleyber Torres have added 26 home runs and 309 total bases to add depth to the lineup.

Spread Pick for White Sox vs. Tigers

  • Tigers -1.5 (-110) (4 units)

The Tigers are one of the best teams in the American League and look to take over this game from the first inning. The Tigers should drive in runs at will with Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, and the rest of the batting order making contact and putting together strong plate appearances. The Tigers should limit the White Sox lineup, which averages only 3.99 runs per game, with Jack Flaherty pitching multiple scoreless innings to allow the bullpen to close out the game with a lead. The Tigers should win the game and cover the spread in a dominant win at home.

Over/Under Pick for White Sox vs. Tigers

  • Over 8.5 (5 Units)

The Tigers are led by their lineup, and this game looks to be a high-scoring one from the first pitch. The White Sox should drive in runs with ease against Jack Flaherty, who has allowed 77 runs in 142 innings pitched, with Mike Tauchman, Edgar Quero, and the rest of the batting order making contact and putting together strong plate appearances. The Tigers, who average 4.82 runs per game, should run up the score against Shane Smith, who has allowed 59 runs in 120 innings pitched, with Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, Wenceel Perez, and the rest of the batting order swinging for the fences and crushing pitches to circle the bases at will. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both lineups stepping up.

Take the Over on 8.5 runs.

The White Sox face the Tigers with both teams on opposite ends of the American League Central Division.
