Lodolo Records Second Win of the Season

Nick Lodolo will be on the rubber in this one. Lodolo was effective in his previous start, keeping a potent Atlanta offense to three runs in 6.2 innings and was credited with the win. The veteran did not make his season debut until May due to injury and was shaky. He has yielded a 5.20 ERA and 1.37 WHIP accompanied by a 2-1 record in 27.2 innings. He has recorded 22 strikeouts. Liberatore has squandered seven runs with a 2-1 record in 13 career innings against the Cardinals.

The Cincinnati Reds are in last place in the NL Central despite having a winning record. The Reds have been playing at a .500 pace recently. They lost a series against the Braves last weekend and dropped two of three home games against the Royals this week. They netted 17 runs while yielding 18 runs. Cincinnati stands at 15-14 on the road.

Sal Stewart is having a tremendous season. The 22-year-old first baseman could be Rookie of the Year. He has clubbed 12 bombs with 37 RBIs and an .818 OPS. Matt McLain has not been able to find a groove. The 26-year-old second baseman only has two RBIs in his past 10 games and 21 RBIs on the season.

Nathaniel Lowe is consistently driving in runs. The veteran DH has posted 25 RBIs and a strong .852 OPS. Spencer Steer yielded 11 RBIs in May and has two RBIs this month. The veteran slugger has bashed nine big flies with 23 RBIs. Elly De La Cruz has a leg injury and is on the IL. They are hoping he is back next week. The star shortstop has 37 RBIs.

Cincinnati is posting an average of 4.36 runs on the season, rating them 12th. The Reds have shaky pitching, recording a 4.76 ERA, pegging them 28th in the big leagues.

Liberatore Gets the Nod on Saturday

Matthew Liberatore will get the nod on Saturday. Liberatore was outstanding in his recent outing, posting 5.1 shutout innings against the Cubs and picked up the win. The veteran southpaw has been hit or miss most of the season and has posted a 4.35 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP accompanied by a 3-3 record in 62 innings of action. Liberatore has yet to pitch against the Reds this season and has issued a strong 3.32 ERA and a 1-1 record in 21.2 career innings against the foes.

The St. Louis Cardinals have been a surprise team this season but are cooling down. They have dropped three of their last five series due to woes at the dish. The Cards managed a series win against the Cubs last weekend but were dealt two defeats in three home clashes against the Rangers this week. The squad scored 10 runs and conceded 12 runs. The Cards are 16-16 at home.

Alec Burleson has been steady at the plate. The 27-year-old first baseman has seven RBIs in his past five games and has posted a .795 OPS on the season. J.J. Weatherhold has been one of the best rookies in the big leagues. The 23-year-old has driven in 25 runs along with a solid .757 OPS.

Jordan Walker has been the Cardinals' best hitter. The young slugger amassed 20 RBIs in May and has netted 44 RBIs and a robust .892 OPS on the year. Masyn Winn had a tough May but has a .746 OPS so far this month. The young shortstop has two homers with 21 RBIs. Nolan Gorman managed just two RBIs against the Reds last season. The 26-year-old third baseman has added 26 RBIs and a .621 OPS on the season.

St. Louis is averaging 4.25 runs per game, ranking them 19th. The Cardinals have a 4.16 ERA, placing them 19th in the big leagues.

Reds vs. Cardinals Pick

Spread Pick for Reds vs. Cardinals

  • St. Louis Cardinals -125 (5 units)

The Cincinnati Reds have been shaky. They have now dropped five of their past seven games, including a series defeat against a weak Royals squad in that span. The St. Louis Cardinals have been one of the most surprising teams in the big leagues this season, led by a hungry, young core that is finding ways to win games.

Furthermore, Reds pitcher Nick Lodolo has only made five starts this season. He did not make his debut until May due to injury. The veteran has not been able to find a groove, as seen in his 5.20 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. The Reds have lost in three of his five starts. Cardinals pitcher Matthew Liberatore is confident after tossing 5.1 shutout innings against the Cubs. The Cards are 4-2 in his past six outings.

Over/Under Pick for Reds vs. Cardinals

  • Over 9 (5 units)

I expect a ton of scoring. Cincinnati will generate runs. Liberatore has issued a subpar 4.37 ERA at home this season. Cincinnati is a threat on the road, scoring 33 runs in its past six road games.

In addition, Nick Lodolo has been shaky against the Cardinals, surrendering seven runs in 13 career innings pitched. The Reds' pitching staff is a weakness. Lodolo has lasted 5.2 or fewer innings in all but two starts, and the bullpen is pegged 27th in the big leagues with a 4.98 ERA. The over is 4-1 in Lodolo's five starts on the season.
