Cincinnati Leaves Ohio
The Cincinnati Reds will finally have to leave their home stadium, after opening up their first two series of the year at home. They hosted the Red Sox, winning two of those three games, before losing two of their next three at home against the Pirates. Cincy gave up eight runs in each of their last two games against Pittsburgh, and will need a better showing from their bullpen here.
The Reds got a pinch hit home run from Eugenio Suarez in their final game against Pittsburgh, but it was not enough as they still lost 8-3. It was Suarez's second home run of the season, as the third baseman has also batted in six runs while batting just .217 at the plate. Elly De La Cruz is still the face of the franchise, the star shortstop bats second in the lineup and has two home runs on the season, but has yet to steal his first base.
Brady Singer will make his second start of the season as a 29-year old right hander. His first game was against the Red Sox where he lasted four innings, but gave up five hits and three earned runs in a game that Cincinnati eventually won in extra innings.
Rangers Head Home
The Texas Rangers have had the exact opposite start of their schedule when compared to the Reds, as all of the Rangers first six games came on the road. This will be the home opener for Texas after they took two of three from both the Phillies and Orioles on the road. They lost their most recent game against the Orioles, as their star pitcher Nathan Eovaldi took his second loss of this young season.
Texas has gotten the most production so far from Jake Burger, the 29-year old is a former Marlin who is now in his second season with the Rangers, and has nine hits to go with two home runs and six RBIs. Burger has been batting .346 from the cleanup spot as their first baseman. Brandon Nimmo is their leadoff man who came over from the Mets in the offseason, he also has nine hits while batting .360, and has already hit his first home run of the year. Shortstop Corey Seager is leading the squad with three home runs through six games.
MacKenzie Gore will make his second start of the year as a 27-year old left hander. He pitched 5.1 innings in Philadelphia while giving up just two hits, but also allowing two earned runs in the win over the Phillies. Last year Gore started 30 games for the Nationals, finishing the year with a 4.17 ERA.
Reds vs. Rangers Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Reds vs. Rangers
- Rangers -1.5 +129 (5 units)
Texas is the play here, but you have to lay -168 if you want them on the moneyline. Taking the runline at this plus money figure is the better play, as Texas will come out strong in their home opener and put up a big win. Gore makes his second start for the Rangers, and he was able to limit the strong Philadelphia lineup to just two hits in his first game, without allowing any home runs. Texas is getting strong production at the plate, as Burger, Nimmo and Seager are all off to hot starts. Take the Rangers to win big in their first game in Arlington.
Take the Rangers on the runline.
Over/Under Pick for Reds vs. Rangers
- Over 8 (4 units)
Laying the extra run at home with the moneyline favorite means we expect to see some runs put up on the board, so the play here is the over. The Rangers have gone over in four of their six games, including two games where they scored eight or more runs against the Phillies and Orioles. Meanwhile, Cincinnati has given up eight runs in each of their last two games, showcasing that their bullpen has not been able to help out their starters. The Reds went over the total in each of those previous two games, and we will see another over here.
Take the over.
