Cleveland Looking to Leave Town on Positive Note

Cleveland had won three of four before getting drubbed in the opening game of this set Friday night. The Guardians entered Saturday 8-6 and held a half-game advantage on the Twins for the top spot in the AL Central. On Friday night, Cleveland had eight hits as Steven Kwan and Angel Martinez (run, two RBI) each had a pair to lead the way. Kyle Manzardo (his first) went deep in a losing effort for the Guardians. Slade Cecconi (0-2) took the loss as he threw 5.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts before being chased.

Tanner Bibee gets the ball here as he makes his fourth start of the season for the Guardians on getaway day. He is 0-1 with a 3.29 ERA, a 1.317 WHIP, five walks and 14 strikeouts over 13.2 innings of work this season. Bibee didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came Monday at home against the Royals. He threw 4.2 innings, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts, in a game the Guardians lost by a 4-2 score. In his last three starts, Bibee is 0-1 with a 3.29 ERA, a 1.317 WHIP, five walks and 14 strikeouts over 13.2 innings of work. Bibee didn’t factor in the decision in his lone start against the Braves, which came on the road April 27, 2024. He tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in a game the Guardians won 4-2 in 11 innings. That outing for Bibee came at Truist Park, giving him a passing familiarity with the venue.

Braves Seeking a Series Victory

Atlanta won their third straight game as they picked up the win in the opening game of this set Friday night at home. The Braves ran their mark to 9-5 and owned a 1.5-game lead over the Marlins in the NL East entering Saturday night. Against Cleveland Friday night, Atlanta rapped out 15 hits in the game, led by Dominic Smith (two runs, two RBI), who had three in the game. Matt Olson (his fourth), Ronald Acuna Jr. (his first) and Michael Harris II (his second) each homered in the contest. Bryce Elder threw 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts, but didn’t factor in the decision. Tyler Kinley (2-0) worked a 1-2-3 sixth inning to earn the win in relief.

Chris Sale takes the ball for his fourth start of the season for the Braves in this contest. He is 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA, a 0.875 WHIP, five walks and 16 strikeouts over 16 innings of work this season. Sale took the loss in his last start, which came against the Angels on the road Monday night. He threw four innings, allowing six runs on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in a 6-2 Atlanta defeat. In his last three starts, Sale is 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA, a 0.875 WHIP, five walks and 16 strikeouts over 16 innings of work. Sale makes his 34th career appearance, 23rd start, against the Guardians here. He is 7-8 with three saves, a 4.44 ERA, a 1.254 WHIP, 39 walks and 159 strikeouts over 142 innings of work against them. Sale is 15-2 with a 2.38 ERA, a 1.002 WHIP, 33 walks and 191 strikeouts over 158.2 innings of work in 26 career appearances, 25 starts, at Truist Park.

Guardians vs. Braves Pick

Run Line Pick for Guardians vs. Braves

  • Braves -1.5 (+115) (4 units)

Atlanta entered Saturday with momentum as they had three straight wins on the ledger. The Braves were 5-2 at Truist Park entering Saturday night and Sale has been lights out at the venue in his career. Cleveland has been up and down so far this season and had split their eight games as the visitors entering Saturday. Bibee is still looking for his first win of the year and hasn’t pitched against Atlanta much in his career. Sale has plenty of experience against Cleveland from his time with both the White and Red Sox. Atlanta has found momentum of late and that carries them to a victory.

Over/Under Pick for Guardians vs. Braves

  • Under 8 (4 units)

Cleveland entered Saturday having seen the under post an 8-6 mark in their 14 games on the year. The Guardians are 23rd by averaging 3.64 runs per game and that number slides to 3.38 runs per game on the road. Cleveland has an average total of 7.50 runs per game on the year, though that jumps to 8.38 runs a night as the visiting team. Atlanta has seen the under post an 8-6 mark in their opening 14 games. The Braves are 5th in the majors with 5.50 runs per contest though that number slides to five runs per game at home. Atlanta has an average total of 8.14 runs per contest and that number falls to 7.43 runs per game at Truist Park. Sale has been excellent at Truist Park in his career and that helps push this game under the number.
