Guardians must make up ground ASAP
Cleveland (68-67 SU, 70-65 RL, and 62-68-5 O/U) won two of three against Seattle in its previous series. The Guardians are 4-6 in their last ten games (the under was 6-3-1).
Cleveland will start right-hander Slade Cecconi on Tuesday versus Boston. In his last appearance, the 26-year-old allowed three runs and six hits in six frames versus Tampa Bay. He is 5-6 with a 4.41 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 18 starts (102.0 IP) this year, including 4-3 with a 3.42 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in nine road outings (50.0 IP).
The Guardians had the second-best record in the American League last season but fell short in the postseason, as New York bounced them 4-1 in the ALCS. They are second in the AL Central this year, but trail division leader Detroit by 10.5 games and are four games out of the Wild Card picture. Can Cleveland improve its record over the final two months to clinch a postseason spot?
Cleveland Guardians Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries to report for tomorrow's game against the Red Sox.
Boston is 42-27 at Fenway Park this year
Boston (76-62 SU, 71-67 RL, and 66-69-3 O/U) lost two of three games to Pittsburgh in its previous series. The Red Sox are 7-3 in their last ten games (the over went 7-3).
Boston will turn to lefty Garrett Crochet on Tuesday against Cleveland. In his last outing, the 26-year-old gave up two runs and six hits, fanning seven batters in six innings against Baltimore. He is 14-5 with a 2.40 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 27 starts (172.1 IP) this season, including 4-3 with a 2.33 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 12 home starts (77.1 IP).
The Red Sox lineup was already solid, but it's even more so now. The addition of Alex Bregman gave Boston a formidable top-of-the-lineup, resulting in 4.9 runs per game (7th). Boston's rotation is also solid, with tomorrow's starter, Crochet, the ace of the group. Can the Sox make a deep run in the postseason if they hold on to a Wild Card spot?
Boston Red Sox Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries to report for tomorrow's game against the Guardians.
Red Sox ML (4 Units)
Boston will win straight-up on Tuesday with its ace on the hill.
Cleveland hasn't faced Crochet this season, but he held them scoreless in six innings last year and boasts a 1.17 career ERA against them (15.1 innings). Current Guardians hitters have a .100 BA and a 34.8% K% in 23 plate appearances against Boston's starter, and haven't fared well against southpaws this season (28th in wRC+). Cecconi is a solid pitcher, but I don't expect him to outpitch Crochet. The Red Sox haven't faced Cleveland's starter, but they have been tough to keep off the scoreboard at home (5.1 runs per game). With a significant starting pitching advantage and a high-scoring offense, I recommend betting on the Red Sox moneyline.
Under (5 Units)
I will wager on the under in tomorrow's Guardians vs. Red Sox game.
Tuesday's pitching matchup is a good one, as Cecconi has a 3.42 ERA on the road and Crochet sports a 2.33 ERA at home. Cleveland's lineup struggles against southpaws, and Boston's offense has been less productive since the All-Star break (20th in wRC+). These teams have reliable bullpens, ranking 3rd and 5th in ERA this season, as well.
