Cleveland is in the thick of the AL Wild Card race
Cleveland (68-68 SU, 70-66 RL, and 63-68-5 O/U) won two of three against Seattle in its previous series. The Guardians are 4-6 in their last ten games (the under was 5-4-1).
Cleveland will start left-hander Logan Allen on Wednesday versus Boston. In his last appearance, the 26-year-old allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in six frames versus the Mariners. He is 7-10 with a 4.42 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 26 appearances (134.1 IP) this year, including 3-3 with a 4.97 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 11 road outings (54.1 IP).
The Guardians had the second-best record in the American League last season but fell short in the postseason, as New York bounced them 4-1 in the ALCS. They are second in the AL Central this year, but trail division leader Detroit by 10.5 games and are four games out of the Wild Card picture. Can Cleveland improve its record over the final two months to clinch a postseason spot?
Cleveland Guardians Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries to report for tomorrow's game against the Red Sox.
Red Sox called up Kyle Harrison to start on Wednesday
Boston (77-62 SU, 72-67 RL, and 67-69-3 O/U) lost two of three games to Pittsburgh in its previous series. The Red Sox are 7-3 in their last ten games (the under went 6-4).
Boston is expected to start lefty Kyle Harrison on Wednesday against Cleveland. The 24-year-old hasn't pitched with Boston since the team acquired him on June 15 from San Francisco, as he was immediately sent down to Triple-A Worcester. Harrison opened the season in the Giants' rotation, but was demoted to the bullpen after a few poor performances. He went 1-1 with a 4.56 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in eight appearances (four starts) with SF.
gave up two runs and six hits, fanning seven batters in six innings against Baltimore. He is 14-5 with a 2.40 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 27 starts (172.1 IP) this season, including 4-3 with a 2.33 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 12 home starts (77.1 IP).
The Red Sox lineup was already solid, but it's even more so now. The addition of Alex Bregman gave Boston a formidable top-of-the-lineup, resulting in 4.9 runs per game (6th). Boston's rotation is also solid, with Tuesday's starter, Garrett Crochet, the ace of the group. Can the Sox make a deep run in the postseason if they hold on to a Wild Card spot?

Red Sox ML (5 Units)
Allen has pitched to mixed results this season and has struggled recently (5.96 ERA in five August starts). His last start against Boston didn't go well, either (seven runs on nine hits and three walks in 4.1 innings on April 27). Current Red Sox hitters have a .375 BA, .594 SLG, and .434 wOBA (.367 xBA/.797 xSLG/.499 xwOBA) in 40 combined plate appearances against him. Plus, Boston ranks 5th in wOBA and 8th in wRC+ versus lefties this year.
Harrison may be inexperienced, but his stint in the minors has helped. In 11 starts with Worcester, he went 4-2 with a 3.65 ERA. I trust him to hold his own against a Guardians lineup that ranks 29th in wOBA and 28th in wRC+ against lefty pitching this year.
Over (4 Units)
I recommend a bet on the over in tomorrow's Guardians vs. Red Sox game.
Wednesday's pitching matchup pits two unreliable starters. Harrison hasn't pitched on a big league mound in months and isn't likely to last deep into the game, putting pressure on the Boston bullpen. In his last two MLB appearances, he surrendered eight runs on 13 hits in 9.1 combined frames against San Diego and Colorado. Allen's been a poor bet to turn in a quality start this season, and he's regressed in the second half (5.28 ERA after a 4.00 ERA in the first half). He's been especially ineffective away from home, pitching to an almost 5 ERA. That's likely to continue against a Boston lineup that's consistently produced against southpaws in 2025.
