This series is impactful for Cleveland

Cleveland is expected to start right-hander Slade Cecconi on Saturday night against Minnesota. In his last outing (5.2 IP vs the White Sox), the 26-year-old allowed two runs on three hits, fanning four batters. He is 6-6 with a 4.39 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 21 starts (121.0 IP) this season, including 4-3 with a 4.23 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in ten road starts (55.1 IP).
The Guardians had the second-best record in the American League last season but fell short in the postseason, as New York bounced them 4-1 in the ALCS. They are second in the AL Central this year, but just swept division leader Detroit and only trail them by 3.5 games. They're also only 1.5 games out of the Wild Card race. Can Cleveland finish strong to make the postseason field?

Twins can only play spoiler the rest of the season
Minnesota (66-86 SU, 71-81 RL, and 73-70-9 O/U) lost two of three games to the Yankees in its previous series. The Twins are 4-6 in their last ten games (the over was 6-4).
Minnesota will likely turn to righty Bailey Ober tomorrow night against the Guardians. In his last appearance (6.0 IP loss to Arizona), the 30-year-old gave up four runs and four hits with nine strikeouts. He is 5-8 with a 5.12 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 25 starts (135.1 IP) this year, including 2-5 with a 4.75 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 14 home starts (77.2 IP).
The Twins had a solid run in May, compiling an 18-8 record, but have collapsed since then. The front office decided against investing in the ballclub at the trade deadline, making multiple trades that left Minnesota in poor shape for the final two months of the season. The Twins won't be making an appearance in the postseason in 2025, but will they at least be competitive?

Guardians vs. Twins Pick
Moneyline Pick for Guardians vs. Twins
- Cleveland ML (5 Units)
The Guardians are breathing down the Tigers' neck in the AL Central title race. A series win in Minnesota would be impactful, to say the least. While they haven't had much success against Ober, they hit him well last month, scoring four runs with two homers. Considering that the Twins have never faced Cecconi, the home team could struggle in their first action against him. With a clear advantage in relief arms — Cleveland ranks 4th in bullpen ERA and Minnesota ranks 26th — the visitors should have enough working in their favor to win game two.
Over/Under Pick for Guardians vs. Twins
- Under (4 Units)
The Guardians' current lineup has a .192 BA and a 24.0% strikeout percentage in 125 combined plate appearances against Ober. They knocked him around a little last time, but he still owns a 2.52 career ERA against Cleveland (11 outings). Even if they get an extra run or two against the Twins' bullpen, the visitors (26th in road scoring and 28th in road wRC+) are unlikely to score a lot of runs in the second game of a doubleheader. I also anticipate a strong showing by Cecconi, who has momentum after holding the Royals and White Sox to a combined two runs on four hits in his last two starts (13.2 IP). With a top-five bullpen backing him up, Minnesota's lineup is in for a challenge.
