Giants are trying to finish strong
The San Francisco Giants are finishing up what started as a promising season but is ending with disappointment. The Giants were in the hunt for the top spot in the NL West Division for the first two months of the season. That inspired the team to make a blockbuster deal with the Red Sox to acquire All-Star Rafael Devers. Unfortunately, the team began to decline soon after the deal, and now it will need to make some decisions this offseason to become a contender again. The Giants lost the first two games of their three-game set at home against the Cardinals this week. On Wednesday, the Giants bounced back for a 4-3 win. Devers hit a solo home run, and Andrew Knizner knocked in two, including an RBI triple to give them the lead for good in the eighth.
The Giants will give the ball to rookie righty Trevor McDonald on Friday night. This will only be the third appearance of the season for McDonald, and just his second start. He is 0-0 on the season with an ERA of 3.38 and a WHIP of 1.38. He has allowed nine hits in eight innings of work. McDonald has walked two and struck out four in his two appearances. In his lone start, an eventual 3-1 Giants’ win, McDonald went six innings and allowed six hits and one run.
Key Injuries: 1B Dominic Smith and SP Landen Roupp are out.

The Giants and Rockies are both out of the playoffs, but the Rockies have had a near-historic losing season. Starter Marquez is just 3-15 on the season overall and is 0-3 in September, with an ERA of 8.38. The Giants will counter with McDonald, making just his second start of the season. McDonald will have the element of surprise in his favor, with just one other start under his belt. He was effective in his lone start, going six innings and allowing just a solo run. The Giants have also dominated the season series with the Rockies, winning eight out of the ten games. Make it nine out of 11.
