Colorado Rockies vs New York Yankees Preview

New York goes for a three-game sweep Thursday night after beating Colorado 6-1 on Wednesday. Rookie George Lombard Jr. hit the first grand slam of his career, becoming the second-youngest Yankee to do it, while Will Warren held the Rockies to one run over six innings. Aaron Judge added two hits in his second game back from the injured list. The Yankees are now 83-62 and continue to chase Tampa Bay in the AL East. Colorado has fallen to 55-90 and faces its toughest starting matchup of the series with Max Fried opposing Ryan Feltner.

Recent Form

The Yankees have won both games without needing Judge to carry the offense, which is a good sign after his long absence. New York has also received production from younger hitters such as Lombard, allowing the lineup to remain dangerous even with Jazz Chisholm Jr. sidelined by a thumb injury. Chisholm's absence removes speed from the order, but the Yankees have enough depth to replace some of that pressure without changing the basic matchup. Colorado has scored only four runs in the first two games and has now reached 90 losses for a fifth straight season. The Rockies can still punish mistakes, but their road offense has struggled to sustain pressure once opponents get into favorable bullpen matchups.

Starting Pitchers

Feltner enters 5-9 with a 5.91 ERA, while Fried is 4-4 with a 2.73 ERA. That 3.18-run difference gives New York the largest starting advantage on the slate. Fried can work deep, generate weak contact and reduce the need to expose middle relief. Feltner faces a lineup that has already scored 11 runs in the series and now has Judge getting more comfortable. Colorado needs him to avoid walks and keep the Yankees from stacking left-handed baserunners ahead of the middle of the order.

The historical run-line layer also leans toward New York, though only modestly. Colorado's road side history is poor, while the Yankees have been slightly positive against the run line at home. That confirmation matters because the moneyline is completely unusable above -300. Laying 1.5 at -140 is the only reasonable way to back the obvious favorite. The wager requires a two-run win, but New York has already won the first two games by two and five runs. More historical context is available in our MLB betting trends.

Odds and Line Movement

The market has moved aggressively toward the Yankees. New York was around -274 in the earlier snapshot and strengthened to roughly -310, the largest favorite move among Thursday's five games. The run line is -1.5 at -140 and the total is 8.5. The stronger moneyline makes the spread even more attractive by comparison. Bettors are still paying a significant price, but it remains far below the cost of simply asking New York to win outright.

What Will Decide the Game

Fried needs to keep Colorado from finding a cheap first-inning lead. If he attacks the strike zone and makes the Rockies string hits together, New York can let the pitching gap work over six or seven innings. Feltner must survive Judge, Cody Bellinger and the middle of the order without giving away free baserunners. The Yankees do not need another grand slam to cover. Steady scoring across the middle innings and a normal Fried start should create enough separation.

Best Bet - New York Yankees -1.5 (-140)

Yankees -1.5 at -140 is the Best Bet. Fried owns a 2.73 ERA compared with Feltner at 5.91, New York has won the first two games convincingly, and the market has strengthened sharply toward the Yankees. Colorado's offense has not shown enough at Yankee Stadium to justify taking the run cushion. A 6-2 New York win fits both the pitching matchup and the series trend.

Prediction: New York Yankees 6, Colorado Rockies 2
