Where do the Rockies go from here?
The Colorado Rockies entered into this series with the worst record in baseball at 43-113, limping toward the finish line of what has been a historically poor season. They have now dropped six of their last eight games and rank near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories. While they’ve managed a few scattered upset wins, Colorado has been particularly bad in the underdog role, going just 30-45 against the run line as a road dog.

The Rockies will send right-hander Tanner Gordon (6-7, 6.00 ERA) to the mound on Wednesday, who has at least shown some competency in recent outings. Over his last six starts, Gordon owns a 3-2 record and 3.74 ERA.
Looking to lock up the West
Seattle remains firmly in first place in the AL West after an impressive road sweep of the Houston Astros over the weekend. At 87-69, they enter this matchup with momentum and the chance to further strengthen their postseason position.
The Mariners have one of the more complete and powerful lineups in MLB, ranking third with 230 home runs per game, while averaging 4.75 runs overall. Leading the team and majors in home runs is Cal Raleigh with 58, to go along with 121 RBI, which is third best in the big leagues. The lineup has firepower behind Raleigh with Julio Rodríguez (31 HR, 94 RBI), Randy Arozarena (27 HR, 73 RBI) and Jorge Polanco (24 HR, 74 RBI) also having big seasons. The Mariners have also been helped by Eugenio Suárez and Josh Naylor who were acquired from the Diamondbacks before the trade deadline.
Veteran right-hander Luis Castillo will start Wednesday’s contest. Castillo owns a 10-8 record with a strong 3.63 ERA, and he has been in peak form of late, with the Mariners winning each of his last three starts.
Rockies vs Mariners Predictions
Side Pick for Rockies vs Mariners
- Mariners -1.5 (5 units)
The Rockies have been terrible all season and are not showing much life even at the end of the season. On the other side, the Mariners are surging.
Seattle has won 13 of its last 14 games and is locked in on the playoff push, while Colorado has nothing to play form. Given Luis Castillo’s current form, this is a complete mismatch across the board. Back the Mariners on the run line with confidence.
Rockies vs Mariners Total Pick
- Under
Luis Castillo has gone three straight starts of allowing one earned run or less, and the Mariners have not allowed more than two runs in any of those games. With the Rockies ranking 29th in runs per game, they'll have a hard time getting more than two runs on Wednesday.
With most of the offense expected to come from the Seattle side, I like the under. Tanner Gordon has been pitching well, and should keep things from getting out of control early.
Take the under, as I expect a 5-2 Mariners win.
