Astros Have Been Eliminated From Playoff Contention
Houston powered its way to a 6-1 win on Saturday, with the long ball carrying the offense. Henry Cole opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run homer off Dana, giving the Astros an early cushion. In the fourth, Christian Walker added a solo shot, followed later in the inning by a two-run blast from José Sánchez to stretch the lead. Walker wasn’t done, crushing his second homer of the game in the ninth for added insurance. Altogether, Houston hit four home runs and tallied all six of its runs via extra-base power.
Christian Walker was the offensive star, going deep twice for his 26th and 27th home runs of the season while finishing with two RBIs and eight total bases. Sánchez chipped in with two RBIs on his 14th homer, and Cole’s two-run shot gave him 11 RBIs on the year. José Altuve and Yainer Díaz also contributed with hits to keep the lineup moving, while Houston finished a perfect 1-for-1 with runners in scoring position and left only one man on base all night.

On Sunday, the Astros hand the ball to Lance McCullers Jr., who will look to finish his season on a high note. Known for his heavy curveball and ability to induce weak contact, McCullers brings experience and leadership to a club now focused on building toward 2026. With Alvarez, Walker, and Sánchez swinging the bats well, Houston will look to give McCullers early run support as they aim to take the series in Anaheim.
Angels Wanna Finish With A Win
The Angels’ offense was silenced in Saturday’s 6-1 defeat, managing just three hits as a team. Mike Trout singled and walked, Taylor Ward added a base hit and a free pass, and Joe Adell drove in the only run with an RBI single in the sixth inning. Adell finished 1-for-4, while the rest of the lineup went a combined 1-for-23, striking out 11 times against Framber Valdez and the Houston bullpen.
Caden Dana took the loss, giving up four earned runs in four innings, including a pair of home runs that set Houston firmly in front. He struck out seven but couldn’t contain the Astros’ power bats. The bullpen followed with five innings of work, with José Ureña surrendering another long ball in the ninth to cap the scoring. The Angels simply couldn’t generate enough traffic to match Houston’s offensive output.
On Sunday, Los Angeles will start Sam Aldegheri, who continues to get opportunities in the rotation late in the season. With the lineup struggling to put runners on base, the Angels will need Aldegheri to keep Houston in check and give the offense a chance to produce. Trout’s ability to reach base, Ward’s patient approach, and Adell’s power potential will be key if Los Angeles hopes to avoid another low-scoring loss.
Houston Astros vs Los Angeles Angels Pick
Astros vs Angels Moneyline Pick
- Angels (4 Units)
The Angels have a good chance to bounce back on Sunday with Sam Aldegheri on the mound. While the rookie left-hander is still adjusting to big-league hitters, he offers a fresh look that Houston hasn’t seen much of, and his ability to change speeds could help neutralize a lineup that lived off the long ball on Saturday. Los Angeles will also benefit from Lance McCullers Jr. starting for Houston, as he’s still working back into form and has been inconsistent with command this season. If the Angels can show patience early, they’ll have chances to create scoring opportunities and put pressure on the Astros’ bullpen.
At the plate, the Angels will lean on Mike Trout to set the tone, with Taylor Ward’s ability to get on base and Joe Adell’s recent contributions giving the lineup some balance. Logan O’Hoppe’s bat also offers upside in the middle of the order, and if the Angels can avoid another night of strikeouts, they’ll be in position to capitalize. With Houston already eliminated from playoff contention, Los Angeles should be the more motivated side, and behind a clean outing from Aldegheri and timely offense from their core, the Angels are in a strong spot to finish the series on a high note.
Astros vs Angels Over/Under Pick
- Over (5 Units)
With both teams turning to pitchers who have question marks — Lance McCullers Jr. still working his way back for Houston and Sam Aldegheri gaining experience in his first extended big-league action — Sunday’s matchup has the makings of a higher-scoring game. Houston showed its power on Saturday with four home runs, and the Angels still have the talent to put up runs behind Mike Trout, Taylor Ward, and Joe Adell if they can limit strikeouts. Neither bullpen has been airtight of late, so if early runs come across, the game could easily open up. Expect enough offense from both sides to push the total into double digits.
