Astros' Garcia will make his second start Sunday
Houston (77-65 SU, 67-75 RL, and 65-71-6 O/U) lost two of three games against New York (AL) in its previous series. The Astros are 5-5 in their last ten games (the under went 6-4).
Houston will start right-hander Luis Garcia tomorrow against Texas. The 28-year-old made his return to the mound on September 1, holding the LA Angels to three runs and three hits with six strikeouts in six innings. It was his first outing of the season after a lengthy IL stint with an elbow injury. Garcia last pitched for the Astros in 2023, compiling a 2-2 record with a 4.00 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in six starts (27.0 IP).
Injuries forced the Astros to be creative last year, as they used 12 starting pitchers and 32 pitchers overall. Still, they turned their season around after a poor start to win their seventh American League West crown in the last eight years. Expectations are still high in H-Town, as the Astros lead the AL West by 3.5 games. Can they sustain their success in the postseason?
Houston Astros Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries to report for Sunday's game versus the Rangers.
Rangers scored 64 runs in their last ten games
Texas (73-69 SU, 74-68 RL, and 62-77-3 O/U) lost two of three games to Arizona in its previous series. The Rangers are 7-3 in their last ten games (the total was split 5-5).
Texas will start left-hander Patrick Corbin tomorrow against the Astros. In his previous appearance (5.2 IP no-decision vs the D-Backs), the 36-year-old allowed five runs on five hits with five strikeouts. He is 7-9 with a 4.48 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 26 starts (136.2 IP) this season, including 3-4 with a 3.20 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 12 home starts (64.2 IP).
The Rangers are hovering around .500, but they can still be a factor in the American League postseason chase. Texas features the veteran ace Jacob deGrom as the headliner of a rotation that also features Nathan Eovaldi and two big-time prospects in Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker. The lineup hasn't produced much (20th in scoring), however, which has kept the ballclub from taking the division lead. Can the Rangers turn it on over the next few weeks?
Texas Rangers Baseball Injury Report: No injuries to report for Sunday's game against Houston.
Astros vs. Rangers Pick
Moneyline Pick for Astros vs. Rangers
- Texas ML (4 Units)
The Rangers have been piling on the runs recently, and I don't expect that to change tomorrow afternoon. Garcia has only pitched once since making six starts in 2023, and he gave up two homers in that start. I don't trust him against a red-hot Texas lineup (4th in wRC+ over the last two weeks). Corbin is also worth backing at home, where he has pitched much better in pitcher-friendly Globe Life Field. In his previous home start, he held the Angels scoreless in eight innings.
Over/Under Pick for Astros vs. Rangers
- Over 8.5 (5 Units)
Texas' lineup has been crushing the baseball recently, and I don't see them slowing down one bit. They rank 7th in wRC+ over the last month. Houston hasn't been as hot, but the Astros' current lineup has a .289 BA in 92 combined plate appearances against Corbin, and they rank 5th in wRC+ against southpaws this season. If one or both of Sunday's starters aren't effective, I feel confident these teams will score at least nine combined runs.
