The 2025 MLB betting action goes on Wednesday, September 24, with the Kansas City Royals taking on the Los Angeles Angels in the American League showdown at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA, so we’ve got the Royals vs. Angels prediction.
It’s the second contest of a three-game set at Angel Stadium, and Tuesday’s opener has been excluded from the analysis. Earlier this month, the Royals hosted the Angels for a three-game series, and Los Angeles took two out of three from Kansas City.
Let’s take a closer look at this Royals vs. Angels prediction, one of our MLB picks for Wednesday’s card. The first pitch at Angel Stadium is set at 9:38 PM ET.
The Royals’ season is over
The Kansas City Royals have dropped six of their previous 10 games overall and lost ground in the playoff race. They were six games behind the bottom wild card in the American League on Tuesday morning.

The Royals have scored 59 runs on a .287/.346/.485 triple-slash in their last 10 outings. However, more than half of those runs have come in two wins over the Philadelphia Phillies 10-3 and the Toronto Blue Jays 20-1.
On the pitching side of things, the Royals have recorded a 5.17 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over their previous 10 games. Stephen Kolek is expected to take the mound at Angel Stadium on Wednesday, and the 28-year-old right-hander carries a 5-6 record with a 3.54 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 18 starts (106.2 innings pitched) between San Diego and Kansas City this season.
Kolek has done a great job for the Royals, posting a 1.67 ERA and 2.07 FIP across four starts and 27 innings of work. Last Thursday, Kolek threw 7.1 innings of a two-run, two-hit ball in a 2-0 home loss to the Mariners.
The Angels have nothing to play for, too
The Los Angeles Angels cannot wait for the season to end. They’ll miss the playoffs for the 11th straight year, which is the current longest postseason drought in the MLB. Interestingly, the Royals swept the Angels in the 2014 ALDS.
The lowly Angels have only won one of their previous 10 games overall. The Halos have scored 28 runs on a .191/.231/.361 triple-slash during that stretch while posting a 5.66 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. Their bullpen has accounted for a 3.92 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in the past 10 days.
Yusei Kikuchi is projected to get the starting call on Wednesday night. The 34-year-old left-hander is 6-11 with a 4.05 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 32 starts (173.1 IP) this season. He’s pitched well over his last two starts, allowing three earned runs on nine hits and four walks through 11.2 innings of work.
Kikuchi is 3-2 with a 5.06 ERA in nine career starts against the Royals. He’ll meet them for the first time this term, and the current Royals are 10-for-59 with a double and a home run against Kikuchi.
Royals vs. Angels Pick
Moneyline Pick for Royals vs. Angels
- Kansas City Royals (4 units)
Yusei Kikuchi has a strong record against the current Royals lineup, but I cannot take the Angels because of their offense. Whereas the Royals have had a couple of outbursts lately, the Angels have been an absolute disaster at the plate.
The Angels have scored more than three runs just twice in their last 10 outings. They’ve registered an ugly .587 OPS and 57 wRC+ against the right-handed pitchers in the last 10 days and 235 plate appearances. During that span, the Royals have recorded a .651 OPS and 84 wRC+ against the lefties.
As I noted, Stephen Kolek has pitched lights out in the Royals uniform. He’s poised for another strong performance, so give me the Royals.
Over/Under Pick for Royals vs. Angels
- Under (4 units)
I’m backing Stephen Kolek to extend his strong run of form. Yusei Kikuchi should fare well in this matchup, so I can only look at the under when it comes to the total, even though these two bullpens haven’t impressed over the past 10 days.
I mentioned how bad the Angels’ offense has been lately. The Royals have been inconsistent at the dish, and they look more dangerous when hitting the righties. In the last 10 days, the Royals have accounted for a .939 OPS and 155 wRC+ versus the right-handed pitchers.
