Bergert Takes the Mound for Royals

Robert Bergert will get the nod on Saturday. Bergert had a rough one earlier this week, squandering eight runs in only 3.1 innings against Cleveland, and was hit with the loss. The young pitcher was acquired in a deal with San Diego last month and has been sharp. He has conceded two or fewer runs in five of his past six outings and has recorded a 3.48 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP, accompanied by a 2-2 record in 72.1 innings of work on the season. He has conceded two runs in 4.2 innings against the Phillies this season, marking his only meeting.

The Kansas City Royals are within reach in the wildcard, but need a ton of help. They stand four games behind the Mariners, whom they get a chance to play next week. The squad won a series against Minnesota last weekend but dropped a road series in Cleveland this week, squandering 18 runs. The Royals are 34-38 on the road.

Maikel Garcia has been quiet, posting a .571 OPS this month. The young second baseman has 16 home runs with 68 RBIs on the season. Vinnie Pasquantino is having a magnificent season. The veteran slugger has eight RBIs in September and 30 home runs with 102 RBIs on the season. Michael Massy has a weak .627 OPS this month. The veteran second baseman has posted 16 RBIs and a .520 OPS. Bobby Witt Jr. posted one RBI and a .692 OPS against the Phillies last year. The 25-year-old shortstop has bashed 21 home runs with 77 RBIs on the year.

Kansas City is averaging 3.81 runs per game, ranking them 28th. The pitching is strong, posting a 3.67 ERA, placing them fourth.

Walker Struggles in Another Defeat

The Phillies are going with Taijuan Walker in this one. Walker had more trouble in his recent effort, conceding four runs in six innings against Miami, and was charged with the loss. The veteran is having an inconsistent season. Walker had a strong August but has squandered nine runs in 10 innings this month. Walker has issued a subpar 4.03 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP, accompanied by a 4-8 record in 111.2 innings of work on the year. He has posted a 6.12 ERA and a 1-2 record in 25 career innings against K.C.

The Philadelphia Phillies have all but secured the division, standing 11 games ahead of the Mets. The squad has been dominant, winning five of its past six series. This includes a series win against the Marlins last weekend. Next, the Phillies earned a dominating sweep of the Mets, keeping them to only 10 runs in four games. The Phillies are 49-23 at home.

Kyle Schwarber could win the MVP. The 32-year-old slugger has insane numbers, clubbing 50 home runs with 123 RBIs and a sharp .930 OPS. J.T. Realmuto has only managed one RBI this month. The veteran catcher is having a mediocre season, hitting 11 homers, 48 RBIs, and a .717 OPS.Β  Alec Bohm remains on the IL and is expected back before the postseason. He has issued 51 RBIs. Nick Castellanos netted a sparkling 1.00 OPS against the Royals last season. The veteran outfielder is having a decent season, clubbing 16 homers with 65 RBIs and a .709 OPS.

Philadelphia is averaging 4.82 runs per game on the year, rating them ninth. The pitching staff has a 3.79 ERA, good for seventh.

Royals vs. Phillies Pick

Spread Pick for Royals vs. Phillies

  • Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (5 units)

The Kansas City Royals are stumbling, dropping four of their past five games, and are now five games out of a wildcard spot. The Philadelphia Phillies are in a groove, winning five of their past six games, and continue to dominate at home,Β  sporting a 9-1 record in their past 10 home games.

Furthermore, Royals pitcher Robert Bergert just surrendered eight runs in 3.1 innings against Cleveland earlier this week. He conceded two runs in 4.2 innings against Philadelphia earlier this season. He was acquired last month. The Royals have gone 2-5 in his seven outings. Phillies pitcher Taijuan Walker has been sharp at home recently, conceding just three runs in his past 11 home innings. I recommend the run line, considering five of the Phillies' past six wins have been by two or more runs.

Over/Under Pick for Royals vs. Phillies

  • Over 9 (5 units)

I expect plenty of runs. Kansas City will contribute to this total. Walker has been shaky, squandering nine runs in his 10 innings of work this month. He has issued a poor 6.12 ERA in his career against K.C.

In addition, Philadelphia is raking at the dish, scoring an average of 5.9 runs in its last 10 games and has posted 35 runs in its past five home games. The Royals rely on pitching to win games, but have been shaky on the mound, conceding 23 runs in their past five games. The over is 3-1-1 in the Phillies’ past five games.
