The Kansas City Royals (74-74, 72-76 RL, 62-85-1 O/U) and the Philadelphia Phillies (88-60, 78-70 RL, 64-74-10 O/U) conclude a three-game series on Sunday afternoon, and we have the prediction. The Royals are going with Noah Cameron. The Phillies will opt with veteran Aaron Nola. The Phillies recorded an 8-2 win to begin the series.

Cameron On the Mound to Wrap Series

Noah Cameron is on the mound on Sunday afternoon. Cameron was outstanding in his recent effort, conceding two runs in seven innings against Cleveland, but had no help and was hit with the loss. The rookie southpaw has conceded five runs in 12 innings this month and has outstanding numbers, delivering a 3.00 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP, accompanied by a 7-7 record in 120 innings pitched on the season. This is his first career meeting against the Phillies.

The Kansas City Royals were within a few games of the wildcard last week, but have dipped back to five games out, all but ending their chances. They have been hit or miss recently. The squad dropped a road series against the Guardians this week due to a slump, scoring six runs while squandering 18 runs. The squad is 34-39 on the road.

Mike Yastrzemski was acquired in August. The veteran outfielder is slumping, posting a .437 OPS this month. He has 15 homers with 42 RBIs and a .722 OPS. Joe Cageianone is one of their top prospects but has yet to find a groove. The 22-year-old has a weak .500 OPS this month and five home runs with 12 RBIs and a .490 OPS on the year. Maikel Garcia recorded one RBI against the Phillies last season. The 25-year-oldΒ  has bashed 16 homers with 69 RBIs this season. Bobby Witt Jr. only has two RBIs this month. The star shortstop has 21 home runs along with 78 RBIs.

Kansas City is averaging 3.79 runs on the year, marking them 26th. The pitching staff has a strong 3.70 ERA, good for fifth.

Nola Targets Fifth Win of Season

Aaron Nola is on the rubber to conclude the series. Nola came through with a gem in his recent effort, pitching six scoreless innings against New York, and was credited with the win. The veteran is having a disappointing season but has also dealt with a few injuries. He is sporting a poor 6.24 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP, accompanied by a 4-8 record in 75 innings pitched. Nola has not been able to contain KC in his career, squandering 10 runs in 10.1 career innings.

The Philadelphia Phillies have secured the division. They are hoping to catch Milwaukee for the best record in the big leagues and home advantage throughout the postseason. The squad continues to dominate, winning five of its past six series. They issued a dominating home sweep against the Mets this week, aided by the pitching, keeping them to 10 runs. The Phillies are 50-23 at home.

Bryce Harper is in a groove, posting nine RBIs this month. The 32-year-old first baseman is having another outstanding season, smashing 26 homers with 72 RBIs. Max Kepler has posted a sparkling 1.1 OPS in September. The 32-year-old slugger has 16 home runs with 50 RBIs on the year. Tre Turner is dealing with a hamstring injury and is on the IL and should return before the postseason. Nick Castellanos has yielded a sharp 1.00 OPS in September. The veteran outfielder has 16 bombs with 65 RBIs and a .709 OPS on the season.

Philadelphia is scoring an average of 4.85 runs this year, ranking them ninth. The pitching is also strong, reporting a 3.77 ERA, placing them seventh.

Royals vs. Phillies Pick

Spread Pick for Royals vs. Phillies

  • Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (5 units)

The Kansas City Royals have dipped five games out of a wildcard spot. They have a losing record on the road, while the Phillies have the most home wins in the big leagues with 50 wins. The Philadelphia Phillies are enjoying their best stretch of the season. They have won five of their past six series, including a sweep of the Mets before this series. These are big games for the Phillies as they are attempting to finish with the best record ahead of the Brewers.

Furthermore, Royas pitcher Noah Cameron has solid numbers, but it has not meant wins. The Royals have lost in four of their past seven outings. Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola rebounded with six scoreless innings against a potent New York offense in his previous outing. The Phillies are winning games with Nola on the rubber, posting the win in four of his past five starts.

Over/Under Pick for Royals vs. Phillies

  • Over 9 (5 units)

I expect this one to go over. Kansas City should score some runs against an inconsistent Aaron Nola. He has surrendered 10 runs in 10.1 career innings pitched against K.C. He has posted a weak 5.54 ERA at home this season.

In addition, Philadelphia continues to succeed at the dish, and the over has been the common trend as a result. They have averaged 6.1 runs in their past 10 home games. Philadelphia scored eight runs in the first game of this series. The over is a convincing 4-1 in the Phillies' past five games.
