The Los Angeles Angels (7-8, 7-8 RL, 9-6 O/U) and the Cincinnati Reds (9-6, 8-7 RL, 8-6-1 O/U) conclude a three-game series on Sunday afternoon, and we have the prediction. The Angels are sending Jose Soriano to the mound. The Reds will answer with Andrew Abbott. The Angels posted a 10-1 win to begin the series on Friday.

Soriano Continues Dominance in Win

The Angels will have Jose Soriano on the rubber on Sunday afternoon. Soriano was dominant in his recent effort, posting eight scoreless innings against the Braves, and secured the win. The veteran has been one of the best pitchers in the big leagues so far, conceding just one run in 20 innings of work, equating to a 0.45 ERA and a 0.65 WHIP, accompanied by a 3-0 record in 20 innings of action. He has amassed 21 strikeouts. Soriano did not pitch against Cincinnati last year and has issued eight shutout innings with an 0-1 record in his career against the Reds.

The Los Angeles Angels continue a road trek on Sunday. They have endured a challenging schedule in the opening few weeks.  Three of their series were against teams that made the postseason in 2025. The squad earned two wins in three home meetings against the Mariners last week. Next, the Angels dropped a home series against the Braves prior to this series. They scored 10 runs and conceded 17 runs.

Mike Trout has been inconsistent this season. The veteran right fielder’s hitting just .170, along with two home runs and a .693 OPS, and posted an RBI in the series opener. He was a tough out against the Reds last season, going 5 for 10. Jo Adell has been a threat, amassing a .291 average with five RBIs.

Noah Schanuel posted just a .500 OPS against the Reds last year. The first baseman has seven RBIs. Josh Lowe is a new addition after spending his entire career in Tampa Bay. The veteran slugger has four RBIs and a weak .548. The Angels stand at 4-5 on the road this season.

Los Angeles is averaging 4.36 runs per game, ranking them 11th. The Angels' pitching has been a strength, posting a 3.67 ERA, placing them 12th in the big leagues.

Abbott Targets First Win of Season

The Reds are going with Andrew Abbott in this clash. Abbott was steady in his previous effort, conceding two runs in 5.1 innings against the Marlins, ending in a no-decision in a game the Reds won. The young southpaw has the stuff of an ace. He netted six scoreless innings against Boston in his season debut and has a 3.18 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and an 0-1 record in 17 innings pitched on the season. Abbott squandered three runs on five hits in four innings in his only meeting against the Angels.

The Cincinnati Reds are thriving in the opening few weeks of this season. This is a team that is ready to be a contender in the division. The Reds have lost just one series this season in a series defeat at the hands of the Pirates. They swept Texas last week, followed by two wins in four road clashes against the Marlins. They scored 13 and squandered 18 runs.

Elly De La Cruz is the key player in this Cincinnati lineup. The young shortstop has been decent, bashing four big flies with seven RBIs and a strong .795 OPS. Spencer Steer has yet to click at the plate. The veteran first baseman has only managed three RBIs along with a .531 OPS. He issued a .393 OPS against the Angels last season.

Eugenio Suarez is the most proven hitter in this lineup. The veteran slugger has clubbed two homers with eight RBIs. He posted two hits in the defeat on Friday. Tyler Stephenson is steady behind the dish. The catcher has two homers and three RBIs. The Reds have posted a 4-4 record at home.

Cincinnati is only averaging 3.0 runs on the year, marking them 25th. The pitching has been outstanding, issuing a 3.80 ERA, placing them 16th in the big leagues.

Angels vs. Reds Pick

Spread Pick for Angels vs. Reds

  • Cincinnati Reds -112 (5 units)

The Los Angeles Angels have been competitive but have spent their last two series at home. They have won just two of their six road games entering Saturday evening. The Cincinnati Reds have dropped just two series and are 6-3 in their past nine games.

Furthermore, Angels pitcher Jose Soriano has been effective, but Reds pitcher Andrew Abbott has also been tough to solve. The southpaw was dominant at home last year, sporting a stifling 2.39 ERA, and posted six scoreless innings against the Red Sox in his first home outing this season. Go with the Reds at home.

Over/Under Pick for Angels vs. Reds

  • Under 8 (5 units)

I expect this one to go under. Los Angeles has been hit or miss at the plate. They have scored three or fewer runs in seven of their past 10 games. Andrew Abbott is the Reds' ace and has given up just one home run on the season.

In addition, as mentioned, Jose Soriano has been insane on the mound, and he is containing strong offensive opponents. He posted six shutout innings against the Cubs and held the Braves to just one run. Soriano has tossed eight scoreless innings in his career against the Reds. Also, the bullpens on these squads have been quite effective. The Angels' pen has a strong 3.29 ERA while the Reds' bullpen has netted a 3.31 ERA.
