Angels will give Kikuchi the ball on Labor Day

Los Angeles (63-72 SU, 72-63 RL, and 74-58-3 O/U) lost two of three games to Texas in its previous series. The Angels are 3-7 in their last ten games (the under was 6-4).

The Halos will start southpaw Yusei Kikuchi on Monday against Houston. In his last outing, the 34-year-old surrendered six runs and four hits with three walks in a four-inning loss to the Rangers. He is 6-9 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 28 starts (154.0 IP) this year, including 1-7 with a 5.25 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in 14 road outings (72.0 IP).

Los Angeles lost 99 games last season, the most in franchise history. The club has made significant strides in 2025, flirting with .500 at various points in the season. They're also ten games over .500 against the run line. While it will take a serious push for LA to make the postseason, progress has been made.

Los Angeles Angels Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries for tomorrow's game against the Astros.

Houston could turn to a spot starter on Monday

Houston (75-61 SU, 64-72 RL, and 61-69-6 O/U) won two of three games against Colorado in its previous series. The Astros are 6-4 in their last ten games (the under went 6-4).

Houston hasn't named a probable starter for tomorrow's game. "Astros GM Dana Brown told the team's pregame radio show that Luis Garcia could start a game 'within the next 48 hours,' per team reporter Chandler Rome. The 28-year-old hasn't pitched in the big leagues this season and is 0-2 with a 3.30 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in nine minor league outings (30.0 IP).

Injuries forced the Astros to be creative last year, as they used 12 starting pitchers and 32 pitchers overall. Still, they turned their season around after a poor start to win their seventh American League West crown in the last eight years. Expectations are still high in H-Town, as the Astros lead the AL West by three games. Can they sustain their success in the postseason?

Houston Astros Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries to report for Monday's game versus LA.

I prefer Houston's side in Monday's game. Kikuchi hasn't pitched well vs the Astros, as current Houston hitters sport a .288 BA, .562 SLG, and .382 wOBA in 161 combined plate appearances against him. He is 1-5 with a 5.67 ERA in 15 career appearances versus Houston. I'm confident the home team will score enough early runs to support whoever they start tomorrow, and their bullpen has been reliable (9th in ERA), especially in comparison to Los Angeles' (28th in ERA).

Bet on the Astros to win straight-up in this Labor Day afternoon clash between AL West opponents!

Over

Kikuchi's struggles against Houston are too difficult to overlook, even though he held them to two runs earlier this season. The Astros have hit left-handers well, ranking 5th in wOBA and wRC+ this year. They will continue to produce against the Halos' starter, forcing him from the game before the sixth inning. That'll put additional pressure on an already-shaky LA bullpen. It won't surprise me if the Angels are competitive through the first few innings, either. Garcia hasn't pitched on an MLB mound since 2023, when he pitched to a 4.00 ERA.

I recommend wagering on the over.
