Los Angeles Looks to Repeat
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the reigning champions and have been strong on the road in this postseason. They took the first two games on the road against the Phillies in the NLDS, and will look to steal another game on the road here. Their bats have been powerful this postseason, as Teoscar Hernandez, Shohei Ohtani, and Tommy Edman have all hit multiple home runs in the postseason.
The Dodgers are not short on talent, as Freddie Freeman was the MVP of the World Series last season, and Mookie Betts bats second with the best batting average on the team throughout their playoff run. Betts is batting .385, with ten hits through this run, batting after Shohei Ohtani, who has lacked his usual consistency in this run. Ohtani has already struck out 12 times in this postseason, but still has the potential to go deep at any moment as he finished the season third in the league with 55 home runs.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto will make his third start of these playoffs. He pitched 6.2 scoreless innings in a win against the Reds, then gave up three earned runs in four innings in a loss against the Phillies. In the regular season, his ERA was 2.49, which was the fourth-best mark in the MLB out of qualified pitchers. His record was 12-8, with a 201-59 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Brewers are Top Seed
The Milwaukee Brewers are coming off a longer-than-expected divisional round matchup against their NL Central rival, as they went all five games against the Cubs. The Brewers finished the season as the top seed in the National League, they won their first two games of the series at home, lost two in Chicago, and then won the closing game at home. The Brew Crew look to keep that momentum going at home here in Game 2.
Jackson Chourio is having a strong postseason after blossoming into the best young talent in the Milwaukee franchise this season. He is a 21-year-old outfielder who finished the season with 21 home runs and 78 RBIs while batting .270 at the plate. In the small sample size of the postseason, Chourio is batting .389 at the plate, with a home run and six RBIs. William Contreras is a steady force in their lineup, he had 76 RBIs in the regular season and has another three RBIs in the postseason while batting .300 at the plate.
Freddy Peralta will make his third start of the postseason, as he started two games in the Chicago series. In the first game, he gave up 2 earned runs over 5.2 innings in a win, while in the second game, he gave up three runs over 4.0 innings in a loss. In the regular season, he had a 17-6 record with a 2.70 ERA, which was 7th in the MLB. He finished the season with a 204-66 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers picks
Moneyline pick and prediction for Dodgers vs. Brewers
- Brewers (4 units)
The Dodgers are similar to the Yankees and Dallas Cowboys; everyone recognizes their name, and expects them to win big games. The betting public is not used to the Milwaukee Brewers being the best team in the National League, but that is where we are, and why the Brewers are the better pick here based on value. Peralta is on the mound for the Brewers. He was one of the best pitchers in the MLB this season, winning 17 games and finishing the year with a 2.70 ERA. Peralta has not given up more than three runs in any of his last five games on the mound, and will limit the home runs here as Milwaukee takes Game 2 at home.
Take the Brewers to win.
Over/Under Pick for Dodgers vs. Brewers
- Under 7.5 (4 units)
Two pitchers are on the mound here who both finished in the top ten of the entire league in ERA. This will be a low-scoring game. Playoff baseball is more conservative than the regular season, strong starters go longer, and managers are not always willing to take risks. Pair this with the talent on the mound to start this game, and we will see an under here. Yamamoto finished the season fourth in the league in ERA, and the Dodgers will expect him to go late into the game as their bullpen is not as polished as their starters. Peralta was seventh in ERA in the league, and already has two postseason starts this season, and will not feel any pressure in this one. Expect a low-scoring game.
Take the under.
