Kershaw is having a resurgent season
Los Angeles (82-64 SU, 63-83 RL, and 67-72-7 O/U) swept Colorado in its previous series. The Dodgers are 5-5 in their last ten games (the under went 5-3-2).
LA will start left-hander Clayton Kershaw on Saturday against San Francisco. In his last outing, the 37-year-old allowed two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts in a 5.2-inning win vs. Baltimore. He is 10-2 with a 3.27 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 19 starts (99.0 IP) this year, including 5-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in ten road starts (51.0 IP).
The Dodgers are fresh off a World Series title with the biggest payroll in baseball, but with a 24-25 record in the second half, they are in a tight race to win the NL West. Los Angeles has all the talent in the world, but making it back to the top of the mountain will still be a challenge. Can they hold off San Diego in the division title race?
Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Injury Report: No new injuries to report for tomorrow's game against the Giants.
San Francisco is back in the Wild Card race
San Francisco (74-72 SU, 67-69 RL, and 69-71-6 O/U) won two of three games against Arizona in its previous series. The Giants are 7-3 in their last ten games (the over was 6-4).
SF will turn to right-hander Logan Webb on Saturday against Los Angeles. In his last outing (6.0 IP win against the D-Backs), the 28-year-old surrendered four runs (one earned) on five hits, fanning seven batters. He is 14-9 with a 3.12 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 30 appearances (184.2 IP) this season, including 7-3 with a 2.77 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 16 appearances (100.2 IP) at home.
The Giants don't have the notoriety of their National League West division rivals, but they have been competitive in the NL West this season, especially recently, winning five of their last six series. San Francisco is still eight games back of LA in the division, but is only 1.5 games out of the NL Wild Card race. Can they finish strong to make the playoffs?
San Francisco Giants Injury Report: No injuries for tomorrow's game against the Dodgers.
Dodgers vs. Giants Pick
Moneyline Pick for Dodgers vs. Giants
- Dodgers ML (5 Units)
Kershaw has fared well against SF, holding current Giants hitters to a .188 BA and .223 wOBA in 127 plate appearances. He boasts a 2.00 career ERA against San Francisco (61 appearances). The Giants have also struggled against left-handed pitchers this season, ranking 30th in wOBA, 28th in K/BB ratio, and 26th in wRC+. Webb hasn't been as successful versus LA, as the current Dodgers lineup boasts a .307 BA and .379 wOBA in 275 previous plate appearances. He is 6-6 with a 4.33 ERA in 18 career appearances vs. Los Angeles.
Over/Under Pick for Dodgers vs. Giants
- Over 7.5 (4 Units)
Betting Trend: The over is 22-16-1 in San Francisco's division games this season, third-highest in MLB.
I respect Kershaw, but the Dodgers' bullpen has been shaky. The unit has a 4.19 ERA (19th) and has allowed 72 homers this season. They have been especially ineffective recently, ranking 22nd in ERA and xERA in the last two weeks. With Los Angeles expected to score a few early runs against Webb, I lean towards the over at 7.5.
