Miami Faces First Test
The Miami Marlins are at the top of the NL East standings, off to a strong start with five wins against only one loss. This should be taken with a grain of salt, as the Marlins opened the season with two series against two of the worst teams in the league last year. They swept the Rockies to start the season, then took two of three against the White Sox with all six games being played at home.
Miami is coming off a blowout win over the White Sox, where Marlins' pitcher Sandy Alcantara pitched a shutout while throwing 93 pitches in their 10-0 win. The Marlins got four RBIs from Liam Hicks, as their catcher had a two-run home run and knocked in another two runs. Hicks is off to an incredible start this season, as he is batting .467 at the plate and has already hit three home runs and added 12 RBIs over his first six games this year. Xavier Edwards is their speedy infielder, he has nine hits through their six games, and is batting .409 at the plate.
Eury Perez will get the start here, and is arguably the best player that the Marlins have on their roster. The 22-year old pitcher has only appeared in one game so far, he gave up five hits over seven innings in a win over the Rockies.
Yankees Start Strong
The New York Yankees still have one of the highest payrolls in baseball, and their fan base will consistently expect deep playoff runs. They opened the year by sweeping the Giants on the road, then took two of three against the Mariners. This will be the home opener for the Bronx Bombers, and they are hoping to not disappoint their fans after another offseason without a title.
In their last game against the Mariners, Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to open up their lead on the way to a win. Goldschmidt is batting just .222 on the year, and his homer against Seattle was his first of the season. Aaron Judge is still the face of the franchise, he has two home runs and three RBIs on the year, but has already struck out 11 times to lead the team. Giancarlo Stanton has been on the bases most frequently, leading the team with 10 hits as their DH.
Will Warren will make his second start of the season, as he lasted 4.1 innings in their opening series against the Giants. He gave up five hits and one earned run, with the Yankees eventually winning the game.
Marlins vs. Yankees Picks and Predictions
Spread pick for Marlins vs. Yankees
- Yankees -1.5 +129 (5 units)
The Miami Marlins are at the top of the NL East standings, but they played the two teams who have objectively been the worst teams in baseball over the past two seasons. Miami beat up on the White Sox and Rockies, but heading to the Bronx to take on the Yankees in their home opener is a completely different story. Warren is on the mound for New York, and the 26-year old started in 33 games last season, and will have no problem dispatching the Marlins. Miami got lucky with their early schedule, but they will be out of luck here.
Take the Yankees on the runline.
Over/Under Pick for Marlins vs. Yankees
- Under 8 (4 units)
The under is the play here is these teams are sending out two of their best pitchers for this Friday afternoon matchup. Eury Perez is the top prospect for the fish, and is set to become their ace as he takes over for Alcantara. Warren is a strong pitcher for the Yanks, and only gave up one earned run in his opening game. The Yankees have gone under in five of their first six games, while Miami went under in all three games against the Rockies.
Take the under.
