Milwaukee Brewers vs Chicago Cubs Preview

Milwaukee enters Thursday's series finale with the best record in baseball and a commanding lead in the NL Central. The Brewers beat Chicago 9-5 Wednesday behind four hits from Jackson Chourio, giving them a second straight win in the series after being routed 17-3 in the opener. Milwaukee is now 87-53, nine games ahead of the Cubs, and has a chance to finish the series by reinforcing the gap between the two clubs.

Recent Form

Wednesday was especially encouraging because Milwaukee won despite a rare poor start from Jacob Misiorowski. Five relievers covered five scoreless innings, while Chourio, Joey Ortiz, William Contreras, Christian Yelich and others kept adding pressure. Chicago got four RBIs from Alex Bregman but could not score after the fourth inning. The Brewers' ability to win a game in which their ace struggled says a lot about the depth that has carried them to the league's best record.

Starting Pitchers

Henderson brings a 2.48 ERA and a 9-2 record into the finale, giving Milwaukee a major starting advantage over Gausman's 4.52 ERA. Gausman still has enough swing-and-miss ability to make any lineup uncomfortable, but he has been far less consistent and now faces a Brewers offense that just produced 14 hits. Henderson's job is to keep Bregman and the middle of Chicago's order from repeating Wednesday's early damage and hand a lead to a rested, deep bullpen.

Bullpen and Late-Inning Outlook

Milwaukee's bullpen was excellent Wednesday, covering five scoreless innings after Misiorowski left early. That workload is worth monitoring, but the Brewers also recently activated Abner Uribe and have enough depth to avoid leaning on the same reliever every night. Chicago's bullpen faces the harder problem if Gausman does not provide length. The Cubs have already seen Milwaukee's offense pressure the middle innings in back-to-back games, and another short start would force Chicago to navigate the heart of the Brewers order with fewer ideal matchups.

Milwaukee's road moneyline return is +6.77%, while Chicago's home moneyline return is -5.60%. The difference becomes more persuasive when paired with the starting-pitcher matchup. Milwaukee also has the better road run-line profile, but the moneyline is the cleaner wager because it does not require the Brewers to win by multiple runs at Wrigley. With a price near -115, there is no need to add unnecessary margin risk. More historical angles for Thursday are available in our MLB betting trends.

Odds and Line Movement

Milwaukee opened around -115 and has mostly traded between roughly -110 and -115, so there has not been a major side move. The Cubs have stayed near even money. The total has appeared between 8 and 8.5 depending the market, reflecting the contrast between Henderson's strong season and Gausman's higher ERA. The relative stability is useful because Milwaukee remains available at a modest favorite price despite winning two straight in the series.

What Will Decide the Game

Chicago's best chance is to get to Henderson before Milwaukee's bullpen can become a factor. If the Cubs force Henderson into a short start, they can create the same type of pressure that produced five early runs Wednesday. Milwaukee, meanwhile, should make Gausman work by extending at-bats and putting runners on for Chourio, Contreras and Yelich. The Brewers have shown they can win with pitching, offense or bullpen depth, giving them more ways to control the finale.

Best Bet - Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline (-115)

Milwaukee Moneyline at -115 is the Best Bet. Henderson owns the clearest starting advantage on the slate, Milwaukee has the better road moneyline profile, and the Brewers have already shown they can beat Chicago even when their starter struggles. At this price, bettors do not need to ask for a two-run win. Milwaukee simply needs to play like the deeper and more consistent team it has been all season.

Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers 6, Chicago Cubs 4
