Minnesota Twins vs Arizona Diamondbacks Preview

The Minnesota Twins enter the series opener at 36-40 after winning four consecutive games. Minnesota closed its road series against Texas with a 9-3 victory Thursday, completing a three-game sweep in which the Twins outscored the Rangers 25-7.

Minnesota scored early throughout the sweep. The Twins won the opening game 4-2, erupted for a 12-2 victory Tuesday, and built a 7-0 lead before completing Thursday's six-run win.

Trevor Larnach has been central to the recent surge. He went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in the series finale, while Brooks Lee and Ryan Kreidler also homered. Joe Ryan supplied five scoreless innings before the bullpen completed the victory.

The Twins have received increasing production from Larnach, Byron Buxton, Josh Bell, Royce Lewis, Kody Clemens, Brooks Lee, Victor Caratini, and Luke Keaschall. Minnesota remains below .500, but the lineup has shown more power and depth than it did during its earlier offensive struggles.

Buxton leads Minnesota with 23 home runs and 71 hits. Bell has driven in a team-high 45 runs, while Clemens has supplied additional left-handed power with nine home runs.

The Twins remain affected by several pitching injuries. Bailey Ober is out with right elbow inflammation, Mick Abel is recovering from an elbow issue, and David Festa remains sidelined with a shoulder impingement. Pablo LΓ³pez is out for the season following elbow surgery.

Ryan Jeffers is also unavailable after undergoing surgery for a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. His absence has increased the catching workload for Caratini and Minnesota's remaining depth options.

The Arizona Diamondbacks enter at 38-36 after winning two of three against the Los Angeles Angels. Arizona closed the series with an 8-1 victory Wednesday, producing five runs during the second inning and receiving seven strong innings from Eduardo RodrΓguez.

Corbin Carroll hit a grand slam in the victory and is fully active. He leads Arizona with 73 hits and a .540 slugging percentage while contributing 13 home runs, speed, and extra-base production near the top of the order.

Gabriel Moreno added three hits in Wednesday's win and has begun to heat up after a slow start. Geraldo Perdomo, Ketel Marte, Tommy Troy, Jordan Lawlar, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., and Pavin Smith give Arizona several additional hitters capable of controlling the strike zone and producing against left-handed pitching.

Arizona has been stronger at Chase Field, where its lineup benefits from familiar hitting conditions and a deeper collection of right-handed options. The Diamondbacks should be able to stack Carroll, Marte, Gurriel, Moreno, Lawlar, and Nolan Arenado around Perdomo's switch-hitting presence.

The Diamondbacks have their own pitching injuries. Ryne Nelson was placed on the injured list Friday with a strained right elbow. Relievers A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez remain sidelined, while Carlos Santana and James McCann are unavailable from the position-player group.

Starting Pitchers and Pitching Matchup

The Twins will start rookie left-hander Connor Prielipp, who enters at 2-4 with a 5.26 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts across 49.2 innings. He has made 10 major-league starts since joining the Minnesota rotation in late April.

Prielipp began his career with three consecutive appearances in which he allowed only two runs. His results have become much more volatile since that opening stretch, with opponents producing longer innings through walks and elevated pitch counts.

The left-hander has allowed four or more runs in four of his last five starts. That stretch includes consecutive six-run performances followed by outings in which he surrendered four, two, and four runs.

Prielipp's strikeout ability gives him a path to escaping trouble, but his 20 walks have created additional baserunners. Arizona has enough patient hitters to force him into deep counts and wait for fastballs in favourable situations.

This will be Prielipp's first appearance against the Diamondbacks. The lack of familiarity may help him during the first trip through the order, but Arizona's balance and experience become more significant if he struggles to land his secondary pitches.

The Diamondbacks counter with right-hander Michael Soroka, who enters at 8-3 with a 3.11 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 79 strikeouts. He has become Arizona's most dependable starter after joining the rotation during the offseason.

Soroka has completed at least six innings in each of his last five starts. He has allowed more than two runs only once during that span and has surrendered exactly one run in each of his last two outings.

The right-hander was excellent against Cincinnati in his latest start. Soroka allowed one run on two hits across seven innings while striking out seven. Arizona ultimately lost 2-1 after the bullpen surrendered the deciding home run in the eighth.

Soroka has supported his 3.11 ERA with a 2.92 FIP, indicating that the run prevention is not solely the result of defensive luck. He has limited walks, avoided damaging innings, and kept the ball in the park consistently.

The Twins present a more difficult assignment than Soroka faced in Cincinnati. Minnesota enters with four straight wins and several hitters producing extra-base damage, but Soroka's ability to work deep and limit free baserunners should prevent another offensive performance similar to the Texas series.

Current Minnesota hitters have only limited experience against Soroka. Bell is 1-for-6, Larnach is 2-for-4, and Buxton has one hit in his only previous at-bat. Those samples are too small to outweigh Soroka's current form and full-season performance.

Game Thesis: Arizona owns the clear starting-pitching advantage and has the right lineup construction to pressure Prielipp. Minnesota's four-game winning streak makes the Twins dangerous, but their recent production came against a struggling Texas staff. Soroka should prevent Minnesota from controlling the game early, while Carroll, Marte, Perdomo, Moreno, and the rest of the Arizona lineup can exploit Prielipp's command problems.

⭐ Best Bet - Moneyline Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks (-168)

The Arizona moneyline is the strongest play because Soroka offers a major advantage over Prielipp. Soroka owns a 3.11 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, while Prielipp enters with a 5.26 ERA and has allowed at least four runs in four of his last five starts.

Arizona also has the offensive profile needed to attack a left-handed pitcher. The Diamondbacks can use several right-handed and switch-hitting bats without weakening the middle of the order.

Prielipp's walk problems are particularly concerning against Perdomo, Marte, Carroll, and Moreno. Arizona can generate scoring opportunities without relying exclusively on home runs, forcing Minnesota's rookie to pitch with runners on base.

Soroka should also reduce the pressure on Arizona's injured bullpen. He has completed at least six innings in five consecutive starts and has pitched seven innings in two of his last three appearances.

Minnesota's recent offensive form prevents this from being a comfortable low-price favourite, but Arizona remains the more likely winner because of its starting pitcher, lineup balance, and home-field advantage.

Spread Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks -1.5 (+130)

Arizona -1.5 offers plus-money value for bettors expecting Prielipp's recent struggles to continue. The rookie has been vulnerable to multi-run innings when his command fails, giving the Diamondbacks an opportunity to establish separation early.

Arizona scored eight runs Wednesday and has several hitters entering with improved form. Carroll homered twice during the Angels series, while Moreno collected multiple hits in consecutive games.

The Diamondbacks can also pressure Minnesota after Prielipp exits. The Twins are missing several pitchers and may need their bullpen to cover four or more innings if the rookie again struggles with his pitch count.

Soroka provides the run line with a strong foundation, but Minnesota's hot lineup and Arizona's relief injuries create late-game risk. The run line carries more upside than the moneyline, although the straight Arizona victory remains the safer play.

Total Pick: Over 8.5 (-115)

The Over 8.5 is the preferred total because Prielipp's recent performances give Arizona a realistic path to producing five or six runs. The Diamondbacks should create repeated traffic if his control problems continue.

Minnesota can also contribute despite facing Soroka. The Twins scored 30 runs during their four-game winning streak and generated 42 hits during the sweep in Texas.

Larnach, Buxton, Bell, Clemens, and Lewis give Minnesota several hitters capable of changing the game with one swing. Chase Field also rewards balls driven into the gaps, creating additional scoring opportunities beyond home runs.

Soroka should limit the Twins more effectively than Texas did, but he does not need to be hit hard for the Over to cash. A Minnesota contribution of three or four runs would be enough if Arizona takes advantage of Prielipp and the Twins bullpen.

A final score around 6-3, 6-4, or 7-3 would clear the listed total while remaining consistent with Arizona controlling the matchup.

Top Player Prop Picks

Michael Soroka Over 17.5 Pitcher Outs (-145) Soroka has completed at least six innings in each of his last five starts. He has averaged a strong workload throughout the season and enters after pitching seven innings against Cincinnati.

His 1.07 WHIP allows him to work efficiently without consistently reaching elevated pitch counts. Soroka also avoids walks, preventing the Twins from extending innings without putting the ball in play.

Minnesota is swinging the bat well, but Soroka does not need to complete six full innings to cash this prop. Recording the first out of the sixth inning would put him above 17.5 outs.

Arizona's depleted bullpen provides another reason to give Soroka a long leash if he remains effective. His recent usage and current form make the Over the strongest player prop in the matchup.

Geraldo Perdomo Over 0.5 Hits (-220) Perdomo has been one of Arizona's most consistent contact hitters and enters with a favourable matchup against an inexperienced left-handed starter.

The switch-hitting shortstop should bat from the right side against Prielipp. The rookie has struggled with walks and command, which can force him to throw more hittable fastballs when he falls behind in counts.

Perdomo also hits near the top of the order, giving him a strong chance to receive at least four plate appearances. One single against Prielipp or the Minnesota bullpen is enough to cash the prop.

The price is heavy, but Perdomo's contact ability, lineup position, and platoon matchup support the Over.

Ketel Marte Over 1.5 Total Bases (-108) Marte enters with 11 home runs, 43 RBIs, and a .752 OPS. He remains one of Arizona's most dangerous hitters and should occupy a central position in the batting order against Prielipp.

The total-bases market gives Marte several paths to win. One double, triple, or home run would immediately clear the number, while two singles would also be enough.

Prielipp has struggled to finish hitters after falling behind and has allowed significant damage over his last five starts. Marte's plate discipline allows him to wait for a pitch he can drive rather than expanding the strike zone.

Arizona's expected offensive advantage should also provide Marte with additional plate appearances. At close to even money, his total-bases Over offers better value than laying an expensive price on a single-hit prop.
