Minnesota Drops Five of Six
The Minnesota Twins have been eliminated from playoff contention for over a week, and the wheels have fallen off as they have lost five of their last six, and only have road games to finish the season. They lost their last two in a home series against the Yankees, then lost the first three while hosting the Guardians before finally stealing a win on Sunday. The Twins will finish fourth in the AL Central. In Sunday's game against the Guardians, Brooks Lee had two hits and two RBIs in the win.
Lee is their 24-year-old infielder who is in his second season in the Majors. He has cracked Minnesota's starting lineup and has 16 home runs and 64 RBIs on the year. Lee bats seventh in the lineup with his .241 batting average. Byron Buxton was their lone All-Star in the field this season. He takes their leadoff spot as the team's centerfielder. Buxton leads the team in most offensive categories, including 31 home runs, 76 RBIs and a .266 batting average. Trevor Larnach batted cleanup on Sunday. He is their right fielder with 17 home runs and 60 RBIs.
Zebby Matthews will make his 16th start of the season as a 25-year-old right-hander. This will be his first game back from injury, as he was on the 15-day IL. His ERA is 5.97 to go with his 4-6 record and 82-24 strikeout to walk ratio. In his last start, Matthews gave up nine runs in three innings in a loss against the Yankees.

Rangers are Running Low on Time
The Texas Rangers are not yet eliminated from playoff contention, but that time is likely coming. The Rangers are five games out of the final playoff spot, with only six games remaining, meaning they would need a historic chain of events to happen to see Texas play in October. Their recent play has created the problem, as they have lost all of their last seven games and just got swept by the Marlins. In Sunday's game, Wyatt Langford had a solo home run in the 4-2 loss against Miami.
Langford is one of the top building blocks for the Rangers moving forward, as the 23-year-old came into the Majors as a highly-touted prospect. This is his second full season in the league, and has 22 home runs and 62 RBIs while batting .242 at the plate. Langford bats second in the lineup as their left fielder. Cody Freeman had the other RBI on Sunday. The 24-year-old was filling in for injured players and has just three home runs and 13 RBIs in spot time. Jos Pederson took the leadoff spot on Sunday. He has eight home runs and 25 RBIs this season, but was not consistent at the plate as he is only batting .180, the worst mark since his short rookie season in 2014.
The Rangers have not yet announced their starter, but know one of their top starters will not be on the mound as they are all scheduled for the final four games of the season. This will likely be a bullpen game, with the Rangers ranking first in the league in team ERA at 3.45.
Minnesota Twins vs. Texas Rangers picks
Moneyline pick and prediction for Twins vs. Rangers
- Rangers (4 units)
We need to try to find the motivation to win for either team, and while neither team is playing well as of lately, the Rangers still have a very small chance to make the playoffs. The Rangers do not have a starter named, but that might not be a bad this as their bullpen was strong all season and they have the best team ERA in all of baseball. Meanwhile, Minnesota is starting Matthews, who is coming off the 15-day IL, and has an ERA of 5.97. Matthews gave up nine runs in just three innings in his last start. The Twins still have most of their top players in the lineup, including Buxton and Larnach, while Texas is without Corey Seager and some other important rotationsal players.
Take the Rangers to win.
Over/Under Pick for Twins vs. Rangers
- Under (4 units)
These teams are both willing to roll over and let this season come to a close. The Twins have lost six out of their last seven, and the Rangers have lost all of their last seven. Someone has to win here, but that does not mean it will be a high-scoring game. The Rangers have the best team ERA in all of baseball and will control the flow of the game from the mound, regardless of who they send out there. Minnesota knows that if Matthews struggles, he will get pulled quickly, as he only lasted three innings in his last start before Minnesota gave up on him. The Twins have gone under in each of their last four; this will go under again.
Take the under.
