New York Mets vs Miami Marlins Preview

New York has won the first two games of the series and goes for a sweep Wednesday after beating Miami 7-5 on Tuesday. Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto and Brett Baty all homered, and the Mets knocked Sandy Alcantara out in the fifth inning. Miami has lost five of six and is falling away from the National League wild-card picture. The Marlins still get a better pitching matchup in the finale, with Janson Junk facing Robert Stock.

Recent Form

The Mets are 67-78 and have suddenly found power at the top of the order. Lindor led off Tuesday with a homer, Soto hit a three-run shot and Baty added another. Miami did rally from 7-0 down to make the game close, so the Marlins' offense has not disappeared even during the losing streak. The larger problem has been allowing too many early runs and forcing the lineup to chase. Wednesday's starter matchup gives Miami a chance to reverse that script.

Starting Pitchers

Stock carries a 5.81 ERA and has struggled to give New York consistent length. Junk is at 4.00 and offers Miami a clear, if not overwhelming, starting advantage. The Marlins need Junk to keep Lindor and Soto from seeing pitches in hitter's counts after Tuesday's home-run barrage. Stock has to avoid walks and keep the ball down because Miami has enough contact hitters to turn traffic into a big inning even without relying on power.

New York's road moneyline history is negative, while Miami has been positive at home. The same broad side comparison favors the Marlins against the run line, though the moneyline is cleaner because Miami only needs to win. The Mets' recent sweep opportunity is a real counterargument, but the starter gap is much more favorable to the Marlins than it was Tuesday when Alcantara unexpectedly struggled. More historical context is available in our MLB betting trends.

Odds and Line Movement

The frozen price made Miami -125 and New York +105. Later consensus markets softened the Marlins slightly to around -121 to -124, a small move toward the Mets after their second straight win. The total remains 8.5. That improved Miami price is useful because it does not require bettors to pay extra for the better starter despite the Mets' current offensive momentum.

Lineup and Bullpen Outlook

Miami's bullpen has been forced to work from behind in both games, while New York has been able to choose matchups with a lead. That needs to change for the Marlins to salvage the finale. Junk giving Miami six innings would keep the preferred relievers available for Soto, Lindor and Baty in the late innings. The Mets' bullpen has been solid enough during the winning streak, but it is less intimidating if Stock cannot provide length and New York has to cover four or five innings. Offensively, Miami needs Kyle Stowers and the middle of the order to make Stock pay for traffic. The Marlins' best path is not another late rally from seven runs down; it is finally getting ahead early and forcing New York to chase.

What Will Decide the Game

Miami must stop New York from scoring first. The Mets have controlled the first two games by forcing the Marlins to chase from behind. Junk needs to establish the strike zone and keep the top of the order off base. Stock's 5.81 ERA gives Miami opportunities, but the Marlins have to convert them rather than strand runners. A clean first four innings from Junk would completely change the pressure of the series finale.

Best Bet - Miami Marlins Moneyline (-125)

Miami Moneyline at -125 is the Best Bet. Junk owns the better ERA, the Marlins have the stronger home-versus-road moneyline profile and the price remains reasonable. New York's offense is hot enough to make this uncomfortable, but Stock's 5.81 ERA gives Miami the better chance to take control early and avoid the sweep.

Prediction: Miami Marlins 5, New York Mets 4
