New York Looks Playoff Bound
The New York Yankees held the lead in the AL East for the majority of the early season, but yielded to the Blue Jays over the second half of the year. The Yankees are still in reach of the AL East crown, as they are only three games out of the top spot, but have a contingency plan ready if necessary. The Yankees currently hold the top overall Wild Card spot, and are likely to end up in the Playoffs whether they catch the Blue Jays or not.
These teams already played the first game of this series, and it decidedly went in the direction of the Yankees as they won 7-0 on Thursday night. Max Fried struck out 13 in the win, but he will not be able to be on the mound again here. The Yankees will rely on their offense again, including Giancarlo Stanton, who had two RBIs in Thursday's win. Stanton has 20 home runs and 53 RBIs as their DH, who has been batting cleanup recently. Aaron Judge batted second as their right fielder on Thursday. He is up to 48 home runs and 104 RBIs on the season.
Will Warren will make his 32nd start of the season as a 26-year-old right-hander. He has an 8-7 record to go with is 4.44 ERA. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is 160 to 62. In his last game, Warren gave up six runs in five innings in a loss to Boston.

Orioles are Out
The Baltimore Orioles are officially the newest team in the American League to be eliminated from playoff contention. Despite having a few All-Star players and a star on the rise in Gunnar Henderson, Baltimore could not get off the ground this season and spent the majority of the year in the basement of the AL East. They could not score a single run on Thursday, finishing the game with just three hits in the loss.
Henderson had one of those three hits and still had a strong season, even if he did not live up to the lofty expectations set for the 24-year-old shortstop. Henderson was in MVP talks last year, but could not get there this season despite going for 16 home runs and 64 RBIs, and a .273 batting average. Ryan Mountcastle batted leadoff on Thursday and had another one of those three hits. He took their DH spot and has five home runs and 31 RBIs on the season. Their top home run hitter on the year is second baseman Jackson Holliday with 17 homers on the season.
Trevor Rogers will make his 17th start of the season as a 27-year-old left-hander. He has a strong 8-2 record to go with his 1.43 ERA. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is 93-24. In his last game, Rogers pitched five scoreless innings in a loss to the Blue Jays.
New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles picks and predictions
Moneyline Pick for Yankees vs. Orioles
- Orioles (4 units)
Baltimore has run out of time, but that does not mean the players on their team have given up. Each player in this lineup or on the mound is fighting to keep their roster spot for the next season. Most importantly, the Orioles have a strong pitcher going here who likely does not need to battle for his spot next year. Rogers is on the mound for Baltimore, and despite their 5th-place record, he has an 8-2 record and a strong ERA at 1.43. He will be able to contain this New York offense which will be settling for a Wild Card spot. Baltimore steals a win here.
Take the Orioles to win.
Over/Under Pick for Yankees vs. Orioles
- Under (4 units)
New York is a home run-hitting team, but only against weak pitchers. Baltimore is sending out their secret weapon, who is no longer a secret. In under 20 starts, Rogers has an 8-2 record, but his 1.43 ERA is proven as the sample size is big enough to know this young pitcher has good stuff. New York is starting Warren; he may not be their top arm, but he has been able to stick around their five-man rotation all season on his way to his 32nd start. Two strong pitchers will carry the way here.
Take the under.
