The Yankees got blown out by the Tigers in the first two games of their set, going down 12-2 in the first game and 11-1 in the second. New York is tied with the Red Sox in the AL East, as they are both 3.5 games behind the Blue Jays at the top. In their most recent game against the Tigers, the Yankees scored just one run from an Austin Wells home run in the 8th inning in their loss.
Wells is their starting catcher. The 26-year-old is in his third season in the league, with all three years being played with the Yankees.
