The New York Yankees (1-0, 1-0 ATS, 0-1 O/U) meet the San Francisco Giants (0-1, 0-1 ATS, 0-1 O/U) in the second of a three-game series on Friday afternoon, and we have the prediction. The Yankees will give the nod to Cam Schlitter. The Giants will counter with veteran Robbie Ray.

The Giants won two of three meetings against the Yankees last season. The Yankees opened the season with a 7-0 win against the Giants on Wednesday, and the clubs were off on Thursday. Can the Giants rebound with their first win of the season on Friday? Check out the Yankees vs.  Giants prediction.  Do you need a boost in your handicapping? Try our MLB Picks!

Schlitter on the Mound in Game Two

The Yankees will have Cam Schlitter on the rubber on Friday evening. Schlitter had a promising rookie season, recording a 2.96 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP, accompanied by a 4-3 record in 73 innings of work. This marks his first career meeting against the Giants. He posted a 2.7 K/BB ratio last year. He enjoyed a promising spring, issuing a 0.93 ERA in 9.2 innings of work in spring training.

The New York Yankees are attempting to compete atop the stacked AL East again this season. The Yankees finished second in the division last season, behind the Blue Jays. They have a daunting task in keeping up with a Blue Jays team that added big in the offseason.

New York did not have a busy offseason with nearly the same roster as last season, with a few upgrades. The Yankees have a nice mix of proven veterans and young talent that should continue to progress. The squad is dealing with injuries as Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon begin the season on the IL.

The Yankees have a deep offense that features a ton of power, led by, of course, Aaron Judge. Ben Rice had a breakout 2025 season, clubbing 26 homers with 65 RBIs and an .836 OPS. Jose Caballero was acquired by the Yankees in July of last season and is being leaned on with Anthony Volpe out with an injury to begin the year. Caballero recorded a strong .828 OPS with the Yankees last season. Austin Wells should continue to improve. The 26-year-old catcher posted 71 RBIs and a .712 OPS in 2025.

Last season, the Yankees averaged 5.19 runs per game, ranking them second. The pitching staff posted a 3.91 ERA, placing them 15th. The bullpen was 25th.

Giants Drop Opener, Rays Gets the Nod in Game Two

Robbie Ray is on the mound in game two of the series. Ray enjoyed an outstanding 2025 season, sporting a strong 3.65 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP accompanied by an 11-8 record in 32 innings of action. Ray conceded one run in four innings against New York last year and is 2-3 with a 3.97 ERA in 36.1 career innings against the Yankees. Ray was great in spring, yielding three runs in 19.2 innings in spring training.

The San Francisco Giants are poised to have success this season, and there is optimism they can return to the postseason after missing out again last year. The Giants added proven veterans, and anything short of a playoff appearance will be considered a disappointment.

Matt Chapman is steady at third base. The veteran knows the Yankees after spending a decent portion of his career in the AL East with the Blue Jays. Chapman bashed 21 home runs with 61 RBIs and a .770 OPS last year. He went 0 for 7 with five walks against the Yankees in 2025.  The Giants have young talent, including hitters Jerar Incarnation and Bryce Eldridge.

The Giants made a big splash in the offseason by signing Luis Arraez, who is an elite contact hitter. The 28-year-old first baseman hit .292 with a .719 OPS last year. Arraez has a .317 career batting average. Heliot Ramos will be leaned on. The 26-year-old outfielder posted 69 RBIs in  2025. The Giants have a dangerous middle of the order led by Rafael Devers. The 29-year-old slugger, who was acquired last season, clubbed 35 home runs with 109 RBIs

San Francisco scored an average of 4.35 runs last year, ranking them 17th. The Giants’ pitching is a strength. They issued a 3.82 ERA last season, placing them 10th in the MLB.

Yankees vs. Giants Pick

Spread Pick for Yankees vs. Giants

  • San Francisco Giants +105 (5 units)

The New York Yankees begin the season without key pitchers Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon and have Cam Schlitter on the mound in game two. The young righty enjoyed a strong rookie season but is inexperienced. The Giants were decent against righties last season. They only posted a subpar .631 OPS against lefties compared to a decent .722 OPS against righties.

Furthermore, this Giants team has the talent to make the playoffs if they can stay healthy. Giants pitcher Robbie Ray knows New York due to his time with the Blue Jays and has issued a decent 3.97 career ERA against the Yankees. Ray was dominant in string training, conceding just three runs in 19.2 innings of work. Ray has earned a 12-7 record in his career in March/April. Go with the Giants to win game two.

Over/Under Pick for Yankees vs. Giants

  • Over 7.5 (5 units)

I expect a barrage of scoring in this one. New York has a potent offense with massive power capable of solving any pitcher. They netted 13 runs in the three meetings against the Giants last season and posted seven runs in the win in the opener.

In addition, San Francisco has a potent offense, including Luis Arraez, Rafael Devers, and Willy Adames. San Francisco exposed the Yankees' pitching last season, scoring a total of 18 runs. The over is a convincing 6-1 in the past seven meetings between these squads.
