New York Climbs the Standings
The New York Yankees have been hot recently, and it has helped them pull into a tie at the top of the AL East with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees just took all three games in Cleveland against the Guardians, separating the top two teams in the division as the third place Blue Jays are nine games behind the leaders. In Wednesday's game, Jazz Chisholm drove in three runs to help carry the Yankees to an 8-4 win, and a three game sweet over Cleveland.
Chisholm batted seventh in the lineup while playing second base, but can be used at multiple positions in the field. He has been a reliable face in the lineup as he is second on the team in at-bats while contributing nine home runs, 29 RBIs and leads the team with 17 stolen bases. Their top power hitter at the moment is not Aaron Judge, but actually Ben Rice who is leading the team with 18 home runs and 45 RBIs as their first baseman. Judge is not far behind, as he has 17 home runs and 38 RBIs while batting .248 at the plate.
Ryan Weathers will make his 13th start of the season as a 26-year old left hander. His record on the year is 2-4, with the Yankees losing three of his last five starts. His ERA is 3.86 to go with 79 strikeouts against 20 walks. In his most recent start, Weathers gave up five runs over six innings in a loss to the Red Sox.

Blue Jays Continue Long Homestand
The Toronto Blue Jays are about to wrap up a nine-game homestand when this series concludes, but they have yet to take advantage of the extra games up North. They are 3-3 through the first six games, winning a series over the Orioles 2-1, but then dropping two of three against the Phillies. Toronto will try to catch the teams at the top of the division, but they are still only one game out of the final Wild Card spot early in the season.
The Blue Jays are coming off a 7-4 loss on Wednesday, as they let Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper both hit home runs for Philly. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has not looked like himself this season after signing a big extension, the power hitter had 48 home runs in 2021, but has just three so far this season through 67 games played. Age is not a concern, as Guerrero is still just 27-years old, but will need to find his power if the Blue Jays are to make a run for the postseason. Their top power hitter is Kazuma Okamoto, the 29-year old rookie from Japan has 13 home runs and 38 RBIs, leading the team in both categories.
Trey Yesavage will make his 9th start as a 22-year old right hander. He has a 2-3 record on the season, with Toronto losing in four of his last five starts. His ERA is 3.16 to go with 44 strikeouts against 19 walks. In his last outing, he gave up six runs over 5.2 innings in a loss to the Orioles.
Yankees vs. Blue Jays Picks and Predictions
Moneyline pick for Yankees vs. Blue Jays
- Blue Jays (5 units)
We are looking at the value play here with Toronto. The Blue Jays had the day off on Thursday, with no need to travel and will be fresh coming into this one. Toronto split a four game series with the Yanks just a few weeks ago, winning the final two games of the series in low scoring battles. Yesavage is on the mound for Toronto, and he was excellent last time he faced New York. Yesavage pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and struck out eight in a win, so he clearly will have confidence coming into this matchup with the Yankees. Weather has not been strong lately, giving up five runs in each of his last two starts.
Take Toronto to win.
Over/Under Pick for Yankees vs. Blue Jays
- Under (4 units)
For Toronto to excel in this game, they will want to keep it a low scoring outing. The Blue Jays won their last two games against the Yankees, with final scores of 2-1, and 2-0. They will not want to let the hard hitting Yankees put up a big number, then have to play catch up. The plan will work, as Yesavage was untouchable last time he faced the Yankees, he held them to just two hits and no runs in that 2-1 victory. Both pitchers have an ERA under 4.00, with the bullpens well rested after a day off yesterday. Expect another low scoring pitchers' duel.
Take the under.
