San Diego Leaves Home

The San Diego Padres got the benefit of playing their first two series at home, but did not take advantage as they dropped two of three in each of those three game sets. They first struggled with the Tigers, before also falling to the Giants. This will mark their first game away from home, and they are in the search of wins to not fall to far behind in the difficult NL West.

In their most recent game, San Diego was able to salvage a strong 7-1 win over the Giants after dropping the first two games. The team benefitted from a two run home run from Ramon Laureano, who is their 31-year old designated hitter who batted fifth in the lineup. Laureano has two homers and four RBIs on the year, while batting a strong .389. Fernando Tatis Jr. is a big name for the Padres, he has five hits so far this year, but has just two RBIs and no homers through the first six games. Manny Machado is back again for San Diego, and is expected to bring power from the cleanup spot.

Michael King is their 30-year old right hander. He pitched in a game this season against the Tigers where he lasted five innings, and only gave up one hit with no earned runs in a game the Padres eventually lost. His ERA last season was 3.44.

Red Sox Drop Five Straight

The fans of the Boston Red Sox always expect their team to contend for World Series rings, and were elated after their opening day win over the Reds. It has been all downhill since then, as they dropped their following two games against Cincinnati, and lost three more against Houston. The AL East is a difficult division, and Boston does not want to fall too far behind early in the year.

They are coming off a 6-4 loss to the Astros, despite getting an 8th inning home run from Wilyer Abreu. He was batting fifth in the lineup, and the 26-year old just had a strong showing with Team Venezuela in the WBC. Abreu already has three home runs this season for Boston, and is batting .417 at the plate with six RBIs. Roman Anthony is their top prospect, who hopes to no longer be a prospect and turn into a star this season. Anthony is their 21-year old outfielder who is batting .227 with one home run to start the year.

Sonny Gray is their 36-year old right hander, and this is his first season with the team after coming over from St. Louis in the offseason. He has started just one game this year, he pitched four innings giving up six hits and three earned runs in a loss to the Reds.

Padres vs. Red Sox Picks and Predictions

Moneyline pick for Padres vs. Red Sox

  •   Padres +100 (5 units)

These teams have each been struggling to start the season, but the Padres lineup is still loaded with firepower, and will be able to outscore this struggling Boston offense on the road. The only player on Boston who has been producing has been Abreu, as he has two times as many hits as the next highest batter. This will not be enough going up against Tatis, Machado, and the red hot Laureano. The Padres will send King to the mound, the veteran had a 3.44 ERA last season and will not be shaken on the road in Fenway.

Take the Padres to win.

Over/Under Pick for Padres vs. Red Sox

  •   Under 8.5 (4 units)

This will be an afternoon matchup between two teams from opposite leagues who have been struggling offensively. Each team has underperformed this season so far, and will continue that trend as King is an experienced pitcher for the Padres, and Boston is sending out Gray who is looking to secure his spot in the rotation with his new team. The Padres have gone under in four of their six games this year, with Boston scoring four or fewer runs in five of their six games so far. Expect a low scoring game here.

Take the under.
