The 2025 MLB betting action goes on Saturday, September 20, with the San Diego Padres squaring off against the Chicago White Sox in the interleague showdown at Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois, so we have prepared the Padres vs. White Sox prediction to get you covered.
San Diego and Chicago continue their three-game regular-season series, and Friday’s opener has been excluded from the analysis. This preview was published before Friday’s results.
Let’s take a closer look at the Rangers vs. Astros prediction for Saturday night, one of our MLB picks for Saturday’s card. The first pitch at Rate Field is set at 7:10 PM ET, and the Padres are -175 moneyline favorites with a total of 8.5 runs.
The Padres hope to clinch the playoff berth soon
The San Diego Padres started this week with a three-game series at Citi Field in New York, where they lost two out of three games against the Mets. The Padres held the middle wild card in the National League on Friday morning, four games ahead of the Mets and six ahead of the Reds and Diamondbacks. San Diego was three games behind the NL West-leading Dodgers.

The Padres have been a hit-or-miss lately, going 5-5 in their previous 10 games overall. During that stretch, the Padres have scored 42 runs on an underwhelming .234/.289/.397 triple-slash, while their bullpen has amassed a sharp 2.70 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and a .154 batting average against.
Yu Darvish is expected to take the mound at Rate Field on Saturday night. The 39-year-old right-hander is 4-5 with a 5.63 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 13 starts (62.1 innings pitched) this season. He’s allowed three or four runs in four straight outings, and the Padres certainly need more from their veteran.
Darvish is 3-2 with a 3.48 ERA in eight career starts against the White Sox. He met them once in 2024, throwing 6.1 innings of a two-run, three-hit ball in a no-decision. The current White Sox are 9-for-26 with two doubles, a triple, and three home runs against Darvish.
The White Sox are back to losing ways
After winning eight of their first 10 games in September, the Chicago White Sox have been swept in consecutive three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians and Baltimore Orioles. During that six-game stretch, the lowly White Sox have only scored 12 runs.
The Chi Sox are slashing an abysmal .186/.244/.288 with six home runs in the last 10 days and 307 plate appearances. Their bullpen has thrown 37.1 innings in that span while posting a solid 3.13 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and a .207 batting average against.
Yoendrys Gomez is projected to get the starting call on Saturday night. The 25-year-old right-hander carries a 3-2 record with a 4.91 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in seven starts and 12 relief appearances (51.1 IP) between the Yankees, Dodgers, and White Sox.
Over his last four outings, Gomez has allowed 13 runs (11 earned) on 16 hits and nine walks across 19 innings of work. He met the Padres once in 2024 and threw one scoreless frame in relief.
Padres vs. White Sox Pick
Spread Pick for Padres vs. White Sox
- San Diego Padres -1.5 (5 units)
This is a perfect spot for Yu Darvish to showcase his abilities. The White Sox have been an absolute disaster against the right-handed pitchers in the last 10 days, slashing .154/.213/.269 with a 32 wRC+ in 216 plate appearances.
On the other side, the Padres have recorded a .246/.302/.431 triple-slash and 106 wRC+ against the righties in the past 10 days. Yoendrys Gomez will give up a few runs and won’t go deep into this game, so I’m backing the Padres to beat the runline. Should Darvish start to struggle, the Padres will make an early call to their bullpen, which has been one of the best in the MLB this season.
Over/Under Pick for Padres vs. White Sox
- Under 8.5 (5 units)
I expect a decent performance from Yu Darvish. As I noted, Chicago’s lineup has struggled a lot lately, so Darvish has to deliver, as the Padres are looking to finish the regular season on a high note. San Diego will need Darvish in the playoffs.
Both bullpens have pitched well over the past 10 days, so I’m not looking for a high-scoring affair. Yoendrys Gomez is a bit of a wild card, though he’s allowed more than four runs just once this season. Gomez sports a 4.01 ERA and 4.07 FIP in seven starts with the White Sox.
