San Diego Padres vs Milwaukee Brewers NLDS Game 2 Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Sunday October 4 2026
San Diego came away from Game 1 with a loss, but not with many reasons to believe it was badly outplayed.
Milwaukee won the opener 3-2, taking a 1-0 series lead despite being outhit 9-7. The Padres left 12 runners on base and had multiple opportunities to turn the game before Milwaukee's power ultimately made the difference.
Game 2 brings a new pitching matchup and a much more attractive San Diego price.

San Diego Padres vs Milwaukee Brewers Division Series Game 2 Preview
San Diego's Game 1 loss was frustrating because the Padres created enough offense to win.
They collected nine hits, drew four walks and put runners on base throughout the night, but managed only two runs. Both came in the second inning before Milwaukee answered with two runs in the third and the deciding run in the seventh.
That kind of loss is easier to come back from than a game in which the offense simply disappears.
San Diego now gets one of its most trusted starters on the mound.
King finished the regular season 12-10 with a 3.21 ERA, but his first postseason start was far more impressive than those season numbers suggest. He threw seven scoreless innings against the Cubs in the Wild Card round, allowing only one hit while striking out eight.
He carried a no-hit bid into the seventh inning and gave San Diego exactly the type of performance it will need Sunday.
Milwaukee counters with Henderson, who was excellent throughout his first full major-league season.
The right-hander finished 11-3 with a 2.47 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP. He was especially sharp down the stretch, going 5-1 with a 1.93 ERA over his final seven starts.
This is a legitimate pitchers' duel on paper.
Why San Diego Is More Interesting at This Price
Milwaukee deserves to be favored.
The Brewers were one of baseball's strongest home teams throughout the regular season and already protected home field once in this series.
But +174 creates a very different decision than simply asking which team is more likely to win.
San Diego does not have to be the better team 50% of the time at this number.
The Padres only need to win often enough for the plus-money payout to compensate for the road setting.
King strengthens that argument considerably.
He has already shown this postseason that he can dominate a playoff lineup, and his career October numbers are strong. He enters Game 2 with a 3-0 career postseason record, a 2.05 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP across 22 innings.
That is the type of starter who can neutralize a home-field advantage for six or seven innings.

San Diego Padres vs Milwaukee Brewers Odds and Line Movement
The current moneyline places San Diego firmly in underdog territory again.
That price is important because Game 1 did not look like a matchup separated by a huge gap.
The Padres produced more hits than Milwaukee, reached base repeatedly and lost by one run. The Brewers needed two home runs and a seventh-inning tie-breaker to finish the job.
That does not make Game 1 unlucky in some absolute sense. Milwaukee converted its opportunities and San Diego did not.
It does suggest the teams were closer on the field than the Game 2 moneyline may imply.
The pitching matchup reinforces that point.
Henderson had the better regular-season ERA, but King brings more postseason experience and is coming off seven scoreless innings in his Wild Card start.
San Diego at a large plus number is therefore more appealing than laying a premium on Milwaukee after one close game.

Under 7 Remains the Secondary Angle
The total of 7 also makes sense.
King enters off seven shutout innings. Henderson finished with a 2.47 ERA and was even better over the final weeks of the season.
Game 1 finished with only five total runs despite 16 combined hits.
That last point is important.
Saturday was not a game where neither lineup created traffic. San Diego had runners everywhere and still scored only twice. Milwaukee generated seven hits and needed two home runs to get to three.
Both bullpens were also able to keep the game under control after the starters departed.
The number 7 provides useful protection because a 4-3 finish pushes rather than loses.
There is also a first-five Under 3.5 angle available, but the full-game total is preferable because it avoids asking both starters to be nearly perfect.

Best Bet - San Diego Padres ML (+174)
San Diego +174 is the Best Bet.
Milwaukee has the better home profile and Henderson is a difficult matchup, but the current price creates enough separation to take the Padres.
Game 1 provided evidence that San Diego can create traffic against Milwaukee pitching. The Padres finished with nine hits and 12 runners left on base while losing by only one run.
Now they hand the ball to King.
His seven scoreless Wild Card innings matter more to this matchup than simply looking at his 12-10 regular-season record. King has been reliable in October throughout his career and gives San Diego a legitimate chance to control the first two-thirds of Game 2.
At this price, the Padres do not need to dominate.
They need another close game and a better conversion rate when runners reach base.
Game Thesis: Milwaukee earned Game 1, but the opener showed a much tighter matchup than the Game 2 moneyline suggests. With Michael King coming off seven scoreless postseason innings, San Diego has enough pitching strength to justify taking the large plus-money price.
Final Prediction
Prediction: San Diego Padres 3, Milwaukee Brewers 2
