In the wild-card race, the Giants are at least five games out of a playoff spot. They have won six of their last seven games entering Sunday’s game.
Carson Whisenhunt gets the start for the Giants on Monday. The right-handed pitcher is 2-1 with a 5.01 ERA in five starts. In his last start, Whisenhunt threw five innings against the Cubs on Aug. 27. He allowed three runs and five hits in a 12-3 win over Chicago. The Giants are 2-3 when Whisenhunt has started this season. In two starts, Whisenhunt has thrown 9.1 innings on the road and he’s allowed three runs during that stretch.
The Giants are hitting .235 this season, which ranks fifth-worst. They have scored the seventh fewest runs while they also have the fourth fewest hits. San Francisco ranks 20th in home runs hit, too.
