Colorado Hoping to Climb Out of NL West Cellar

Colorado went into Friday losers of five straight and eight of their last nine games as they were stifled by the Dodgers on the road. The Rockies entered Friday night 20-37 and in the basement of the NL West, 16.5 games behind the Dodgers for the top spot. On Wednesday, Colorado was limited to a single hit, a single by Tyler Freeman with two out in the eighth inning. The Rockies were zero of four with runners in scoring position in the loss. Tomoyuki Sugano (4-4) took the loss as he allowed three runs on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts over 4.2 innings of work.

Ryan Feltner is slated to make his first start in five weeks as he logs his sixth start of the year for the Rockies here. He is 1-1 with a 6.30 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, eight walks and 17 strikeouts over 20 innings of work this year. Feltner didn’t factor in the decision in his last start, which came on April 23 at home against the Padres. He threw two innings, allowing two runs on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts in a game the Rockies dropped 10-8. In his last three starts, Feltner is 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA, a 1.628 WHIP, five walks and 12 strikeouts over 11.2 innings of work. Feltner makes his sixth career start against the Giants in this contest. He is 0-3 with a 4.34 ERA, a 1.276 WHIP, 12 walks and 24 strikeouts over 29 innings of work against them. Feltner is 4-11 with a 5.84 ERA, a 1.503 WHIP, 58 walks and 130 strikeouts over 166.1 innings in 35 career appearances, 34 starts, at Coors Field.

Giants vs. Rockies Prediction

Moneyline Pick for Giants vs. Rockies

  • Giants -120 (4 units)

Each of these teams are struggling, hence why they occupy the bottom two spots in the NL West race. The Giants have been a disappointment as things simply haven’t clicked for them two months into the season. Houser has pitched better of late, winning two of his last three starts entering this game. Feltner missed five weeks with ulnar nerve irritation and may be on a pitch count in this contest. The Rockies’ bullpen has struggled all season, especially with a lead. It’s hard to have faith in Colorado’s relief corps given their issues to this point of the year. Look for San Francisco to come away with the victory in this contest as Houser turns in another solid outing.

Over/Under Pick for Giants vs. Rockies

  • Over 10.5 (4 units)

San Francisco entered Friday having seen the over post a 27-26-3 mark in their opening 56 games on the season. The Giants are 30th in the majors with 3.64 runs per game, a number that falls to 3.54 runs per game on the road. San Francisco has an average total of 8.25 runs per game and that number slides to 7.97 runs per game on the road this season. Colorado has seen the under post a 31-25-1 mark in their 57 games on the year entering Friday. The Rockies are 21st in the majors with 4.02 runs per game and that number jumps to 4.40 runs per game at home. Colorado has an average total of 9.39 runs per game and at Coors Field, the number climbs to 10.32 runs per game. Neither pitching staff has been great and with the friendly hitter’s park that is Coors Field, this game winds up over the number.
